On a nicer note, one of the major problems faced by commanders of tough, battle hardened British Troops is the habit of adopting stray dogs in combat zones, a habit beloved of soldiers worldwide, I believe! The problem is that these dogs inevitably get bought back to the home country, with all the expense of quarantine for the soldiers involved! The upside is that these pooches have very often saved the lives of their adopted family by warning them of strange movements in the dark!

The most annoying thing right now is that, when I am around my parents, about half of the time they are relaxing on their new sofa while watching FOX News (aka. "Faux Noise" to the non-conservatives here at VEF...) They are retired, but they like to waste time.

I can understand their desire to stay informed about the world around them, but neither CNN nor FOX is unbiased and objective enough to merit my parents' devotion of several hours a day. Undoubtedly, they know that CNN is more liberal and FOX is right-wing conservative, but they choose to listen to FOX anyway.

As for myself, I don't think of myself as right-wing conservative, and I didn't vote for The Donald in 2016. I am really not enough of a TV guy to watch as much news as my mom and dad, and I get my news and viewpoints from the Internet.

Since I'm 4 years old I always was horrified by human cruelty against animals.
Even here on this forum, there are members who still defend this.
You can't imagine how I hate Spain and France to still show and make dirty money thanks to bullfighting.
I'd like that foreign tourists would boycot these disgraceful shows.
I also hate rodeo, dogfights (still allowed in some American states ).

I also watched on a German TV channel something disgusting called "bear-baiting" in Pakistan and I learned that this "show" was exported by English people.
Twenty years later, I still sometimes have nightmares about this.

I could understand if there would be too many dangerous bears that we would have to regulate the population by properly hunting them or even better, by sterilizing them.

But... "bear-baiting" is absolutely disgraceful. Bears still suffer horrible acts because of human behaviour or beliefs. Bear-baiting, Chinese bile farms, slave gypsy bears... I read an American book about bears all around the world. The biologists made such horrible description of what still happen to bears, that I wanted to vomit.

According to psychologists, 5% of the humanity is sadist. That's a lot.
Because only sadists can persecute and humiliate animals like this.

What are waiting our politicians to create anti-specists laws?

I do not know if bear baiting was exported originally from here, but in defence of my Nationality, I will say that Britain was amongst the first to ban, cock fighting, dog fighting, bull baiting and many of the animal cruelty so called sports.

We also bought in a raft of legislation to protect domestic and farm animals from cruelty, this was the first anywhere and came in to protect farm animals in 1822, and the acts kept rolling to protect other creatures.

We have the Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to animals, yet the National Society for the prevention of Cruelty to Children! Animal welfare is, and has been taken seriously in Britain for a long time, the courts do send people to jail, for too short a sentence in most cases, and you can be banned from keeping a pet, a breach of which will end you up in jail.

There are few people in this country who would tolerate an animal being beaten in the street without some action being taken, and that is how it should be.

As of 2008, dog fighting is a felony in all 50 states and in the District of Columbia, Guam, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands. In most states, the possession of dogs for the purpose of fighting is also a felony offense. Being a spectator at a dog fight is also illegal in all states.

That's what was reported in the German report and the book about bears that I read.

Sadly it seems that it still happens in the Penjab area.
That's one of the most vicious thing I've seen in my life.
I've also seen similar pictures taken in Russia. Bears starved in a cage and then attached to a rope and bitten by dogs.

That's not a question to blame a specific nationality. I already wrote, as French citizen, I strongly blame France to consider "bullfighting" as a cultural art.
There are several way to unfairly behave with animals.
French patees made on force-feeding of geese are act of torture too.
