We haven't heard much from Win 10 users, but the thread is called Windows 10.

The good points: I see none but I promise to keep searching.

The bad points at this moment:
- the file system NTFS could be improved;
- the occasional loss of parameters: several times I had to reset parameters which I had previously set;
- the speed looks the same or worse, especially when you have to search a file;
- everything in Windows 10 is centered around Microsoft and the urgent need for the user to buy this or that at Microsoft's;
- there is no more security than with Windows 7 or Windows 8.1, on the contrary;
- the loss of several functionnalities: look at the previous posts; as time passes I am afraid we will discover more;
- and yet at first you seem to get something more simple to use; in that the idea was good but practically you realise it is not so.

An example which I am sure some of you have encountered:
- when shutting down you need to do it fast; if not you might find yourself in an infernal loop.

My conclusion :
For the occasional user that could be OK.
If you are someone who wish something almost perfect, if you can, you should look towards Apple or Linux.
I repeat this product is not finished; it is not mature.
It reminds me of Vista.

Was it worth all the trouble to go there? For Microsoft I doubt it, for the users I doubt it even more.

I was only commenting on the Tesla comment, not saying anything about anyone or who said it, I just thought it is quite interesting. Mind you I still wonder, and hope i am wrong, whether there might be a Y2K type failure at some point. Not that things were as bad as they were claimed to be going to be, but if on the first of april every Tesla would only drive in reverse or something, that would be a nuisance. In 20 years, when every car is on autopilot things could be pretty bad. Hopefully all the companies are developing their own software, so at least the faults and errors will be different.

Like I said at the beginning of the post I reproduced the remarks made by this person, adding that I adhered to his ideas.
But concerning Tesla drivers I am not involved: so I reproduced the part with the rest of the remark but it is not mine.
This considered, I think he might be right: it is better for the moment to stay with more classic pilots.

Personnally I used various external disks from various (good) companies.
The disks finally all became unreliable.

So for the moment I use several external disks that are made by LaCie.
LaCie is a small company that sells classy products.
But I never put only one copy of anything on it: allways two or three copies on different disks.
So in the event one disk fails there is aways another version which is still available.

There is a drawback: this solution costs more and it takes more space.

The line which is called "Rugged" at LaCie's has one major advantage (for me): it is mounted on shock-absorbers so you can go anywhere with them.

You are describing events that are in my view very improbable and I hope that will never happen.

I well remember the Y2K frenzy. Happily there was nothing of the sort.
That was probably more a student prank than anything more serious.

If you try to disable some services and update drivers and reduce effects win 10 would be the best option.

Today was an upgrade day.

First it was Adobe, then it was Microsoft.
It took about 15 minutes and everything seemed working ok.

I went to the cmd.exe window and I typed "Winver".
The answer was: I still have the 1511 version, not the Anniversary version.

For starter, I have no more printer.
Coming from Microsoft this is not surprising.
Same as usual.

Online scammers are now targeting those who recently upgraded to Win10, via fake — but highly sophisticated — Windows support sites.

Some of these scam sites appear to be authentic Microsoft offerings, complete with the word “Microsoft” or “Windows” in their names, and with layouts, colors, typefaces, and logos that are similar to official sites.

According to the Financial Times, Microsoft will shut down Skype's London Offices.

The online communications service, originally founded in London in 2003 and which was acquired by Microsoft in 2011 for $8.5bn, employs close to 400 people in the UK capital.

Microsoft said :

This story is making the news in the UK today. For VEFers in the US and elsewhere - 'Which' is a long-established and well-respected not-for-profit consumer organisation (and magazine) in the UK:

Microsoft has been criticised over its Windows 10 software by consumer rights group Which?.
The body said it had received hundreds of complaints about the upgrade, including lost files, emails no longer syncing and broken wi-fi and printing.

In some cases, it said, users had had to pay for their computer to be repaired.

Microsoft defended its software and highlighted that it provided help online and by phone.
"The Windows 10 upgrade is a choice designed to help people take advantage of the most secure and most productive Windows," said a spokesman.

"Customers have distinct options. Should a customer need help with the upgrade experience, we have numerous options including free customer support."

Which? surveyed more than 5,500 of its members in June, and said that 12% of the 2,500 who had upgraded to Windows 10 had later reverted to an earlier version.

The charity said users had complained of feeling "nagged" by regular alerts prompting them to upgrade their system, and, despite declining the notifications, had said Windows 10 had installed itself regardless.

"Once installed, people reported various problems, including printers, wi-fi cards and speakers no longer working with their PC; instances of lost files and email accounts no longer syncing; and, most significantly, their computer encountering such problems that they had to pay someone to repair it," Which? said.

"There have also been complaints about poor customer service from Microsoft when users contacted the company about the problems they are having."

Alex Neill, Which? director of campaigns and policy, added: "We rely heavily on our computers to carry out daily activities, so, when they stop working, it is frustrating and stressful.

"Many people are having issues with Windows 10, and we believe Microsoft should be doing more to fix the problem."

Windows 10 was released in July 2015 as a free upgrade for one year, and was designed to run across laptops, desktop computers, smartphones and Microsoft's augmented reality headset HoloLens.

Last month, millions of webcams were rendered useless after an update to Windows 10.
A Microsoft camera engineer who responded to complaints on the support thread at the time acknowledged the company had done "a poor job" of letting people know about the change.
In July, the French data authority said Windows 10 gathered an "excessive" amount of personal data about users.

By default, the software collects information on how it is used - including installed apps and how much time is spent using them.

"[Microsoft] is collecting excessive data, as these data are not necessary for the operation of the service," said the National Data Protection Commission.

Stuart Miles, founder of gadget news site Pocket-lint, said: "With a rollout of this size, it is always likely there will be issues and problems experienced by some users. "On the whole, Windows 10 has been received well, and was a notable step up from the previous Windows 8, which did not go down well with many users."
