At no point in History would one consider a leader such as he as a butcher but rather a Freedom Fighter in quite rightly defence of his peoples Tribal Lands.
Yes but Geronimo is how he is most commonly known. So because Mexicans killed his people it was right for him to burn, murder, and torture, American men, women and children Now don't get me wrong, all sides did atrocious things to each other and the more vicious it was the more vicious it became. Also you need to remember that the Apache were raiders by tribal ethics, they had raided other tribes for a long time. They saw nothing wrong in the early years (and later of course) of contact with Mexico or the US people they ran into with stealing or killing if needed. It was their way of life. When the Apache started raiding the Mexicans and later the whites (for lack of a better term) is where started to go way bad. A lot of the problems were cultural misunderstandings, whites and Mexicans didn't care about the why they just responded to the act, usually over the top. Plus Indians were considered subhuman by many peoples of the time and not worth a thing.

Didn't see "Broken Arrow" listed, nor what you might call a real early western - Last of the Mohicans (either version). I really like the two Peckinpaw greats -- Wild Bunch and Ride the High Country.

In America a bag of sugar is usually 5 pounds.
As for your other comment I am so sorry for you

Great fun.
Indeed. I also thought the same of The Ballad Of Cable Hogue.
Anything with Glenn Ford, but especially Cowboy and The Fastest Gun Alive. There was something really vulnerable about his heroes. Unlike John Wayne, you always worried Ford's character might die.

John Ford did several of John Wayne's biggest movies. Stagecoach, The Long Voyage Home, Fort Apache, 3 Godfathers, She Wore A Yellow Ribbon, Rio Grande, The Searchers. While he did not die in those he did die in six of his movies so it wasn't a slam dunk he would survive.

Ford made a memorable villiain in The Man From Colorado 1948,Playing a sadistic psychopath Who becomes Judge in a small town. Ford Who could be noble, anguished or heroic,Here is positively reptilian,Clearly hinting at His character's sexual pleasure in killing(Very Unusual for the time)

Well One Them was The Alamo 1960,Even with The Duke playing the role,They couldn't have Davy Crockett surviving.as a side note, the larest version of The Alamo is the only one to actually show Crockett dying,Bayoneted in cold blood after the battle. The truth about Crockett's demise is unclear,He may well have died fighting in the final bloody chaos after the Mexican Army came over the walls.

Gotta say el dorado, I used to watch that movie all the time with my dad when I was young. I also think the new version of 3:10 to yuma is good, bale and Crowe did a good job in it.

Silverado. A pastiche of every B-grade western ever made, with every western cliche and stereotype thrown in. And it worked a treat.
