merge/join MPEG2 files
Hello,
any suggestions on best/easiest ways to merge MPEG2 files. VDub does not open them. I have Ultra Video converter which supposedly will merge, but I do not see an option. I do not want to re-encode. Ideally would like to create one large MPEG2. I have a VHS capture software that is splitting the files (unless I want to seriously lower the bitrate/quality - which I don't) Thanks |

you must reencode if both files aren't encoded same way (=same bitrate for video&audio, same codec).
you can try tmpegenc, it has the ability to merge mpg files (not included in project wizard menu, it's a separate option). http://www.tmpgenc.net/en/download.html vdub should work, too, but it seems you either need to install a missing codec or a plugin for vdub first. but with vdub you need to reencode both files as avi first bevore you can merge them ("append avi segment"). you can't append segments of other formats. |

Thanks hos,
yes. they are the same. What is happening is I am ripping VHS and the saved file gets split every 60 minutes if I want the highest quality output. So, a 90 min film gives me 2 segments. They are the same birate in every aspect. I do not want to reencode as the program I am using to create a DVD fileset has problems w files other than MPEG2. Basically, I need a simple way to merge 2 MPEG2 . I will take a look at what TMPGEnc...thanks |

If that doesn't work out you can take a look at Y.A.M.B. Google it.
