^^I'd add a couple of songs to the list of classics above. Leon played on "This Diamond Ring", a #1 hit for Gary Lewis & the Playboys. He also wrote a couple of other hits for them, "She's Just My Style" and "Everybody Loves a Clown". He played piano on "Day After Day" by Badfinger. He also wrote "This Masquerade", which is probably best known as George Benson's signature song. Of course, there are his two solo hits "Lady Blue" and "Tightrope". What a talent. RIP.

I was really sad about Robert Vaughn's passing. I was a huge fan of the Man from U.N.C.L.E.
I also saw where Julie Gregg, who appeared on the 1966 Batman TV series had passed. She was the Penguin's hench-girl on "Fine Finny Fiends" and was the nightclub singer in the 1966 Batman movie. She was also in The Godfather. http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/new...-was-79-946775 Last edited by sidaris; November 13th, 2016 at 09:45 PM.. Reason: Added picture |

Gwen Ifill, moderator and managing editor of “Washington Week” and co-anchor of “PBS NewsHour,” has died. She was 61 years old.
WETA President and CEO Sharon Percy Rockefeller confirmed the news to staff in a Monday email, saying Ifill died of cancer. “I am very sad to tell you that our dear friend and beloved colleague Gwen Ifill passed away today in hospice care in Washington,” she wrote. “I spent an hour with her this morning and she was resting comfortably, surrounded by loving family and friends.” A veteran journalist, Ifill moderated the 2004 and 2008 vice presidential debates. She was set to receive the 2016 John Chancellor Award from Columbia University for “her unflinching pursuit of the truth, healthy skepticism of those in power and her commitment to fairness.” The award ceremony, scheduled for Nov. 16, was recently postponed.

Mose Allison
Jazz-Blues singer/songwriter/pianist
Mose Allison NYT obit An hip Beat Generation figure whose music was more popular in England than at home in the USA. His style was hugely influential on Georgie Fame and Van Morrison (with whom he played in the 1980's). His songs were covered by many Rock'n'Roll giants: "Young Man's Blues" - The Who "Parchman Farm" - John Mayall and The Soft Machine "I'm Not Talking" - The Yardbirds "Look Here" - The Clash Last edited by caboosier; November 15th, 2016 at 08:44 PM.. |
