British Royal Family
As the country goes completely overboard for the Diamond Jubilee, I wondered what the feeling is of our members towards the Monarchy?
My own opinion is they are so far out of touch with reality its frightening. In fact, they would be Britains most dysfunctional family. In a nation full of spongers and cheats, Lizzie and her inbreds lead by example. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kezkk...eature=related |

When Lizzie pops her clogs or abdicates or whatever it is that happens... will Charles be HEAD of the Church of England....? A man who got married whilst having a long term affair with another married woman is to be head of a church that says such things are a big no-no? I'm not a religious man but that seems a bit hypocritical to say the least.
The only thing good about the royals is the odd day we get off work when one of them cops it/gets married/has an anniversary. I can't believe some folk look up to these lot, I really can't. Take off the 1950's blinkers and look at them for what they really are. I am not a subject. Cheers, Dumbassgo.

I hate all their hangers on, ladies in waiting etc, what a miserable po faced unsmiling, sycophantic bunch of tw*ts. They keep rolling them out every time there is a programme on the royals, even with the sound turned off, I find them deeply depressing.
The word lickspittles to describes them nicely. |

Yeah, I couldn't believe that.
The queen never had to pay taxes, and then when she did, the firm set up an offshore Cayman Island tax haven. Talk about sticking it to the "commoners."

The monarch's land and property is held in a portfolio called "The Crown Estate". The revenues from this land and property don't go to the King. They go to the Government. The King gets an allowance, normally 15% of the revenue. It's 25% for the next few years because there's a very expensive renovation of Buckingham Palace in progress. Really, this story that the monarch doesn't pay taxes is a total pack of bollocks. It gets touted a lot, so I'm not having a go at Hazius - he's getting the same information a lot of people are getting. The real facts are that the monarch has to surrender 75% of his property income up front, normally 85%. The monarchy has other revenues and how these are taxed is certainly worth discussing. But lets start by junking the "never had to pay taxes" fairytale.

[QUOTE=scoundrel;6508839]Mmm.
Really, this story that the monarch doesn't pay taxes is a total pack of bollocks. It gets touted a lot, so I'm not having a go at Hazius - he's getting the same information a lot of people are getting./QUOTE] This is what I'm going on. But to give her credit, in the article it says that she wished to make changes to her tax arrangements, although it sounds like she (the firm) was under pressure to do so. (That's why I thought it was disappointing to then mitigate that tax in an off-shore account.) Anyway, I'm not an expert, so would be interested in your info. http://news.bbc.co.uk/onthisday/hi/d...00/2529209.stm BBC News 1992: Queen to be taxed from next year A British monarch is to pay income tax for the first time since the 1930s. The Prime Minister, John Major, told the House of Commons the Queen had informed him earlier this year that she wished to make changes to her tax arrangements. She will also take responsibility for the working expenses of most of her family under changes Mr Major said should be implemented in April 1993. The decision has been broadly welcomed by Westminster and is fully supported by the Prince of Wales, who already pays some tax on his income. Buckingham Palace has denied the announcement is related to growing public concern about the rising cost of the monarchy. Questions have been raised about who will foot the bill for repairing Windsor Castle, which was severely damaged in a fire last week. But a palace spokesman said the Queen and Prince Charles had made their decision before the July summer recess of Parliament. Under the new arrangement the only royals who will be paid for by the public will be the Queen, the Duke of Edinburgh and the Queen Mother. Chairman of the influential Tory backbench 1922 Committee Sir Marcus Fox said public pressure should now come off the monarchy. And constitutional expert Lord St John of Fawsley said the decision proved the Queen was in tune with public opinion. "She's a wise woman - she's known nine prime ministers and she's been on the throne for 40 years," he said. But historian David Starkey told the BBC even bigger changes were needed. "This is not the solution, this is simply addressing the symptom - the solution is to find something positive for the monarchy to do," he said. Since 2001 the monarchy have published their annual accounts in an attempt to make royal finances more transparent. The Queen's duties as head of state continue to be funded with public money. In the financial year 2003-2004 this amounted to £36.8m. Her personal fortune is estimated to be about £275m.

I'm all for the Queen - she keeps toerags like Blair and Brown and Cameron and their ghastly spouses in their place.

What did i miss a meeting She`s done bugger all , ever . That`s right folks surprise surprise i`m a rabid republican. I care not for anyone of those name changing so called superior class of A-grade cheating welfare scroungers . As let`s call it how it is, they do bugger all and we tax payers get the privilege of funding their soft soap hedonistic lifestyles . Yaaaay ain`t it terrific how a woman worth 44 billion (Not including property) has the gall to think it`s her right that a bankrupt nation of starving freezing people should fork out a fortune in praise of an absoloute , nothing ! She`s a nothing. Certainly not of royal English blood. Not that i`d care even if she was , as i detest such false leanings towards phony imperialism . If she could trace her lineage back to our last true king (Dicky 3rd) i`d still not give a toss. Unless i was holding her aloft and tossing her into the Thames that is Oh bugger , guess that`s my Knighthood gone for a Burton then
