The big lie is the one no one wants to admit to.
The world is over populated and the best thing we can do is control population growth. It's not a case of not being able to feed everyone, the world doesn't have the water for many more people. |

Christmas Truce and football in World War 1
A Christmas truce memorial was unveiled in Frelinghien, France, on 11 November 2008. Also on that day, at the spot where, on Christmas Day 1914, their regimental ancestors came out from their trenches to play football, men from the 1st Battalion, The Royal Welch Fusiliers played a football match with the German Battalion 371. The Germans won 2–1. A bit mad that in the midst of all the carnage, that ordinary soldiers didn't hate the enemy enough not to have a temporary truce and a kick around.

Space Shuttle Challenger
On January 28, 1986, the Space Shuttle Challenger explodes because of a failed O-Ring. Millions of school children were watching the lift off because crew member Christa McAuliffe, was the first female teacher in space. This disaster halted the shuttle program for three years. Investigations into the disaster showed that 3 of the 4 Personal Egress Air Packs had been used, indicating that at least 3 crew members had survived the initial explosion. It also revealed that Capt. Mike Smith had maintained his composure and valiantly attempted to use the Reaction Control System thrusters to fly the crew cabin. However, the systems were damaged beyond use and the crew cabin struck the ocean at over 200 mph with a force of 200g. Last edited by TCO95; June 5th, 2012 at 08:24 PM.. Reason: Added a title. |

To me the most iconic photo was the girl burned by napalm, running and screaming towards the camera man. To me it brought home the true horror of war
Can't post it, rules is rules, but you've all seen it. Thankfully she survived, and is now a symbol for peace. |

While I agree in broad terms, the problem is that people always think it should be someone else who needs to be curbed not them or theirs.

Jimi Hendrix
Jimi Hendrix set fire to his guitar live on stage for the first time when he was appearing at The Astoria in London, England. It was the first night of a 24-date tour with The Walker Brothers, Cat Stevens and Engelbert Humperdink. The Fender Stratocaster burned on stage by Hendrix sold for £280,000 at a 2008 London auction of rock memorabilia. He had a very short career, just a couple of albums over 3 years, but that was long enough to create a legend.

On the 68th Anniversary of D-Day, I thought a few pics of the event were appropriate. These are three of what has now become known as The Magnificent Eleven. These pics were taken on Omaha Beach by the greatly esteemed war photographer Robert Capa.
