When I played Golf regularly and in winter competitions, this was always in my bag.
Woods 100 Old Navy Rum. Some retailers over here in the UK think it is 100 years old. Actually it is 7.

I used to be partial to a rum and black (blackcurrant) makes a great hot toddy. I've mostly had the captains or Lamb's but can recommend Wood's old navy rum. Strong, tasty and not massively expensive.
On a side note the phrase "Tapping the admiral" meaning to take a small measure of a strong drink supposedly comes from the battle of Trafalgar when after his death Admiral Nelson's body was placed in a barrel of rum to preserve it for the trip back to England. The ships crew drank most of the rum before they reached port! Not sure of the validity of that story or what the rum would have tasted like but interesting none the less.

Dictator rum from Columbia - it is exceptional if you can find it. Tastes like manuka honey, allspice, toasted oak and vanilla.

When I was younger I used to drink Bacardi, it was the trendy 70's drink.
I now refer to Bacardi as 'tap water', especially as a West Indian mate of mine introduced me to Wray & Nephew rum, or 'rocket fuel' as I like to call it many years ago, My preference these days is a nice dark rum, preferably Woods, but in all honesty i'll sup any of them. |

Rum was the original drink that had proof to describe its alcohol content. A splash had gunpowder added to it and if it failed to ignite when a flame was put to it and the purser would likely have been thrown overboard.
Pussers rum, from Purser, the naval rank who dispensed it was available in ceramic flasks for years. They were usually in the shape of a ships decanter which was conical with a wide base to avoid spillage and tipping. I have several of these I bought for my father and they graduate right down to a quarter bottle. All were highly decorated and had ships signal flags which I never got round to decoding. A special blend was created to commemorate the battle of Trafalgar but at £120 - £150 is still available. Old naval hands would drink ,but the rest, like Morgan etc were considered piss. |

This year Captain Morgan has run a tv campaign with a bloke dressed like the character on the label. In a bar, every person that comes in calls him captain, he calls them captain, they all call eachother captain. After you have seen it a couple of times you will swear off the brand as it seems that only wankers drink it.
