Avi to DVD converter software
I currently use the freeware DVDFlick to convert my downloaded avi files to dvd (it also does wmv and many other formats).
The only complaint I have about it, is that it takes ages! Up to 4 hours for a dvd, and the pc is tied up throughout this processing period, so invariably it is an overnight run. Does anyone know/use a slicker dvd converter? It does not need to be freeware, just quick and of good quality. Thanks Last edited by plentycrazy2000; February 29th, 2008 at 02:32 PM.. avi to dvd converters
www.nchsoftware.com/prism
I use Prism, get the paid for version and it's very fast, uses minimal resources and does a great copy straight to dvd There's also avi2dvd from trust software- good but a bit awkward to get to grips with Hope this is some use to you regards |

I've just downloaded 'convertxtodvd' [version 2.2.3.258g] to compare the quality and compatibility. A good site that I use for info and advice is: http://www.videohelp.com/ Regards, dshell Last edited by dshell; February 29th, 2008 at 08:08 PM.. Reason: More info |

Thanks guys. Very helpful. I was aware of convertxtodvd but not the others.
Re your play problems, dshell, it may well be the disks. A few months back I switched to using Taiyo Yuden disks, and I haven't had a coaster since. Also, some dvd players are more 'tolerant' of dodgy disks than others. 1 hour is much better than 3 to 4 hours with dvdflick! |

I agree about the dvd players too... the funny thing is though, my ancient dvd player [matsui] will play anything that's loaded into it [in any format] with no problems at all, whereas my new player/recorder [p4n45on1c] is really choosy. Regards, dshell |

Slightly off topic, but you may find this link really useful for establishing disk quality. Stick to 1st class. There isn't that much of a price difference anymore (at least in the UK) to justify buying the landfill stuff.
http://www.digitalfaq.com/media/dvdmedia.htm DVD recorders tend to be far more fussy about disk quality than plain old dvd players. I bought a Sony 860 about 20 months ago and when I started throwing Riteks at it, it was spitting out 50% of them! That's when I decided to upgrade the quality of my disks. Plentycrazy2000 |
