That's a pretty extensive list. Add Chris Martin, Paul McCartney to it....

They all talk about charity but expect us the general public to fund it. They are also extremely patronizing as if they are experts on ecology , or atmospheric physics and the like.

With the amount of money they could donate they could do a lot of good but most of them seem quite content instead to issue more compilations, avoid paying tax and keep on going yet more tours.

Hypocrites the lot of them as Sting was once caught out by Paxman regarding his air travel the self styled ecowarrior.

In the classical sphere add Andre Rieu the self styled Waltz King. I only thought there was one waltz king namely Johan Strauss. So far as I know Mr.Rieu has not one original composition to his name.

And Andrea Bocelli and all those other popera singers. There are a few videos where said singer is actually singing with genuine opera singers and the weakness and squeaky timbre and limited range are more than apparent.

So far as I am aware he has never sung a role like Kathryn Jenkins in serious repertory like a Count Almaviva or Lensky or Faust.

It is a real shame genuine singers get overlooked whose dedication is to their art alone rather than self publicity and shallow fame.

Perry Keyes , an Australian singer songer writer who was touted as Oz's answer to springsteen, I don't know who is the worst of the two!

Well, considering my username, avatar and the fact I'm an Aussie, Umm, throw me into the mix......I'd say I'm by far the worst of the 3 but in a different way

Sorry mate just not a great admirer of the boss, no personal slur intended but on the plus side you too can compose your own Springsteen song: just put these words into a sentance:

car
rain
engine
sir
Janey
night
backstreet

It's OK, BTW, I noticed in the ABC song title thread you seem too post songs by The Clash once in a while, I take it by that you must like them and correct me if I'm wrong.......but here's my point, Joe Strummer was a huge Boss fan and they were great friends But that don't mean anything

OK, Here goes.......If I pass, I'll be the newest member of the legendary E Street Band

Here goes.............

My baby Janey sittin' in the rain,
Her Daddy want her home,
Man this is gonna be a pain,
Car wont start,
This night is all in vain

Call up the Auto club, the engine wouldn't run
All I could say was, Sir, this ain't no fun
Damn sure is spooky in this backstreet without a gun

So, do I pass
Very simple lyrics, if that's what you were implying Springsteen songs can be like, but, he is known for a massive body of work with a very large amount of very profound and meaningful lyrics.......such as

The Ghost Of Tom Joad..........That's a live version with Tom Morello, from Rage Against The Machine

Men walkin' 'long the railroad tracks
Goin' someplace there's no goin' back
Highway patrol choppers comin' up over the ridge
Hot soup on a campfire under the bridge
Shelter line stretchin' round the corner
Welcome to the new world order
Families sleepin' in their cars in the southwest
No home no job no peace no rest

The highway is alive tonight
But nobody's kiddin' nobody about where it goes
I'm sittin' down here in the campfire light
Searchin' for the ghost of Tom Joad

He pulls prayer book out of his sleeping bag
Preacher lights up a butt and takes a drag
Waitin' for when the last shall be first and the first shall be last
In a cardboard box 'neath the underpass
Got a one-way ticket to the promised land
You got a hole in your belly and gun in your hand
Sleeping on a pillow of solid rock
Bathin' in the city aqueduct

The highway is alive tonight
But where it's headed everybody knows
I'm sittin' down here in the campfire light
Waitin' on the ghost of Tom Joad

Now Tom said "Mom, wherever there's a cop beatin' a guy
Wherever a hungry newborn baby cries
Where there's a fight 'gainst the blood and hatred in the air
Look for me Mom I'll be there
Wherever there's somebody fightin' for a place to stand
Or decent job or a helpin' hand
Wherever somebody's strugglin' to be free
Look in their eyes Mom you'll see me."

The highway is alive tonight
But nobody's kiddin' nobody about where it goes
I'm sittin' downhere in the campfire light
With the ghost of old Tom Joad

I wont be replying

I think if you record that lyric sheet in a very non bombastic way, you could very successfully tap into Mr S's core audience Mr Street!

I knew about Strummers friendship with boss man but the reason I like them ( The Clash ) is they were very diverse and recorded a lot of different muscial genres mixing them up, obviously their lyrical content caught my attention.

I've read / heard Springsteens lyrics and melodies and it doesn't really appeal to me, unlike the rest of the western world, each to their own, I'm sure he's not to bothered that I'm not a huge admirer

I saw Bruce Springsteen in 1978 in a movie theater. He played for 3 1/2 hours, I was very impressed by his connection to the audience who were absolutely nuts about the guy. I had not been a huge fan of his records, but was floored by his live performance.
