Top of the list: Canadian Cheddar - a seriously strong cheddar, that is hard to find these days.
Strong Blue cheeses are always enjoyed. When we paid off the mortgage, at my suggestion we spent the nest month's (redundant) mortgage payment on a really fab weekend break. We flew to Nice, and had a meal at the Le Chanticleer restaurant in Le Negresco hotel. The meal cost about the same as one month's mortgage payment. As part of a wonderful meal, we had various cheeses, one of which was Swiss, and absolutely delicious. We both said, "remember the name of that one", but by the time we got back to the hotel, we had both forgotten it! So, take paper and pen.

Immy - The best cheese is a Baby Wensleydale eaten with a fruit cake and a good Port. No one other than a Yorkshireman believes me until they try it.

I prefer Hartington Stilton bought fresh from Hartington cheese shop, attached to the dairy that makes it.

Swiss, Swiss, and more Swiss
I regularly eat pieces of Swiss cheese covered in mayonnaise, I eat egg white omelets with Swiss, I ate a hamburger last night with melted Swiss. Not a cheese fan except for Swiss, my entire life I have loved Swiss Cheese. |

Note to self when working on the Cheese Shoppe list: check expiry dates!
Today's selection: Stilton Stilton would've been a great addition to my survey...if I had paid attention to the packaging. Have not tried a blue cheese since the dreaded Roquefort incident a few weeks ago but nothing prepared me for the horrid taste I was about to encounter. Yet it had nothing to do with the Stilton and everything to do with me paying attention to the expiry date, which was Nov 23rd. The edges were moldy, discoloration covered more of the surface area than I assumed it should. A tentative nibble from a fresher-looking area brought about a sour, stale taste. Digging further into the 4.8oz/136g wedge produced even less appealing results. Needless to say I'll have to revisit this, and there'll be no official rating but it'll still count as a valid sampling. The Cheese Shoppe List 1. Cheddar 10/10 2. Parmesan 8/10 3. Mozzarella 7/10 4. Gruyere 8/10 5. Edam (red wax) 9/10 6. Danish Blue 5/10 7. Emmantal 3/10 8. Gouda (smoked) 4/10 9. Port Salut 7/10 10. Norwegian Jarlsberg 4/10 11. Brie 1/10 12. Gorgonzola 3/10 13. Boursin (shallot & chive) 9/10 14. Red Leicester 7/10 15. Double Gloucester (chive & onion) 7/10 16. White Stilton (mango & ginger) -/10 17. Wensleydale (w/ cranberries) 7/10 18. Roquefort 1/10 19. Camembert 5/10 20. Limburger 4/10 21. Lancashire 6/10 22. Greek Feta 6/10 23. Stilton -/10 |

Crap. Honesty forces me to admit liking those cheeses available in tubes like toothpaste, especially the chives and shrimp varieties. Primula I think. Great because when you spread them on a cracker it does not break and end up spreading your hand with it.

Stilton is my favourite, closely followed by Danish Blue, Vintage Cheddar, Brie and Camembert...
