It's all a load of crap.

I heard about this today, or yesterday listening too a talk radio station.
It's just about public perception. I think I heard that Colorado was about to de criminalize marijuana I might have that wrong... But even we're headed that way in the near future... That's the next market

Colorado and Washington state have legalized marijuana.

I heard yesterday that Oklahoma and one other state (forget which, maybe Oregon or California) are debating it. It seems its only a matter of time now before marijuana (at least) is legalized.

if you pay attention to the lawyers advertising on TV trying to get as many people as they can to come in on the lawsuits that have evidently been settled out of court for the bad drugs they have been selling I'd you'd be better off smoking 4 or 5 packs a day than taking those drugs.Makes you wonder what their selling now that might be settled out of court six months or a year from now. It's bad to say but it looks like you can't trust anyone anymore.

Almost all of the pharmacies on this side of the pond have sold tobacco products for years. Walgreens, CVS, whomever.

Tobacco shops aren't as prevalent as they used to be which is probably the reason this is a bit of a big deal.

btw, almost two years since I've smoked a pipe (Feb. 15) or anything else. Quitting is one of the hardest things I've ever done.

Heck they even opened up medical clinics in their stores in order to drive pharmaceutical sales. It was weird that they couldn't fill prescriptions written in their own store!

Insurance companies, more than the government, have driven tobacco out because of how much it affects their bottom line.
Having recently dealt with my parents mental and physical decline and the need for us children to manage their medicines, I can tell you that Medicare does not do that .
They got their drugs paid for by medicare from Raley's grocery stores, which sell tobacco.

And that's where the next source of income will come from Someone has gotta grow it... won't be the small green house on a farm bloke, or the backyard small operation either... Nope, for a commercial amount... It'll be the farmers who already supply the tobacco companies with the land, equipment and so on.... Weird ain't So, later down the track CVS will be able too sell weed legally for it's theraputical benefits

There's always a bigger picture to something.

I checked and it said CVS had not been covered by Medicare Advantage mainly because of tobacco sales, so it may have been only on a case by case basis and not wholesale, and CVS wanted to make a change..

It looks like there is talk that Obama may use an EO to actually implement that tobacco ban. CVS recently negotiated with the White House about joining their "Going Private" job creation initiative and may have heard about something coming down the pipe and decided to act now to help out the PR of any Presidential move to change Medicare's policies.

Estreeter,

Maybe we need to start a marijuana thread here as I think its going to be interesting to watch what happens with it over the next few years.

When I have some time I'll start finding some stats but, for now, I've heard that Colorado has already run out of the product several times and state revenues from marijuana have been quite surprising to some. But, from what I've heard, they're charging some really high prices for the stuff (somewhere above $300 per ounce or quarter ounce).

I've also heard that the main problem for big producers and banks is lack of a positive federal policy. The feds still don't approve of this and seem to be just looking the other way at the moment.

Interesting. Should be worth watching.
