Watched "Searching" (2018) daughter missing film - John Cho https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Searching_(film) Film centers around a man without a specific set of skills who has to deal with a missing daughter. Has pretty high reviews on Rotten Tomatoes.
Lots of twists and turns, not what I would consider realistic, not sure why it got high ratings. I give it 2.5 of 5. John Cho is good in his role, script was ........not that believable to me. Debra Messing is in it too. No nudity. |

AMC's "The Terror"
Based on the historical Franklin Expedition of 1845-1850, and based on the book by Dan Simmons. Two ships set out from England in one of many 19th Century attempts to find the trade route-shortcut of the Northwest Passage through the ice of the arctic.
I became absolutely obsessed with this TV series after I watched the first few episodes, which then sparked my interest in learning more about the original, historical expedition. I also started reading the Dan Simmons novel as well. I have not seen as fine a collection of American and English actors in many, many years. The acting performances in this are simply mesmerizing. Out of the entire cast I was only familiar with two of the actors. Many are new, upcoming younger English actors mixed in with veteran actors of screen and stage. Of particular note is the young actor Adam Nagaitis. He plays the very complex, psychologically troubled Cornelius Hickey. It is an absolute master performance. Hickey murders a crewman back in England and then takes his identity to go along on the expedition. While technically an antagonist and "bad guy" in the overall story, Nagaitis' performance is so compelling that it's difficult to outwardly hate Hickey. Rather you empathize with his complexity and intensity. His downward spiral into murder and madness doesn't register as being evil, but rather as quite human under the desperate circumstances he and the crew finds themselves in. This series just draws you in and doesn't let go. The characters are genuine and real, and the acting is so convincing that the growing tension and stress between them as the situation worsens grips your attention and strikes at your deepest fears. I recommend this series to anyone who simply loves great acting and compelling characters, and loves historical accuracy in period sets and uniforms, equipment, etc. The Terror makes you feel like you are trapped in the ice along with these men. It chilled me to my core. It is now on my shelf and will be watched many times. This is one of my favorite scenes. Cornelius Hickey and two ship mates are punished for violating naval regulations after they left the ship without authorization, to kidnap and imprison an eskimo girl they believe is using witchcraft to direct a mysterious beast that has already killed several of the crew. Hickey anticipates that the captain will see the larger picture and will praise Hickey for acting on behalf of the welfare of the expedition. But the captain is having none of it and sets to make an example of Hickey and his ship mates. Hickey cannot contain his anger and he blatantly challenges the captain's judgement and character. Just superb acting: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Uj72-lrrcH0 Another great scene with absolutely amazing acting performances, in which Captain Fitzjames admits to Captain Crozier that his entire life has been little more than a well orchestrated fraud: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uVZPTJwBnv8 And finally, a rather ominous scene in which the officers discuss how many provisions they have left on the ship and how long they could potentially make it last before they run out. The tone of the scene and the expressions of the actors convey a real sense of a slowly but relentlessly worsening situation and being trapped, but still needing to act as though the situation is well under control. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5CbrYOhIZo4

I just woke up right now and turned on HBO - to catch a young man stating that Michael Jackson would lick his (the young man's) anus while masturbating himself - when he was a young boy. I changed channels. Apparently this is a documentary called "Leaving Neverland" now airing on HBO. https://www.nme.com/news/music/leavi...s-film-2463998
I would recommend you avoid it, not sure how I am going to get this out of my mind now. |

The Inventor: Out for Blood in Silicon Valley
A dream to help people worldwide and change the medical field becomes a nightmare of dishonesty PRAISE: What a mesmerizing true story of Elizabeth Anne Holmes the founder and former CEO of Theranos who wanted to put blood testing machines in every home ,that not only would just need a small drop of blood from a finger, and which users could test themselves monthly for disease. I believe Holmes genuinely wanted to help people and see her dream realized, but got caught up in her own ego and oblivious mind set she didnt see or refused to see that it couldnt come to fruition. I enjoyed how the film showed this slow build up of support, praise, and financial backing from corporations, periodicals, celebrities and politicians kept growing and turned Theranos into a $9 billion company even though the aforementioned truly hadnt seen any true results. People actually put Holmes before family members who could see the company had become a sinking ship !! PROBLEMS : NONE Im looking forward to the biopic which will star Jennifer Lawrence Scale of 1-10 10+ |

I watched that too. Didn't her deep voice affectation, the no blinking and black wearing Steve Jobs impersonation just creep you out?
Very interesting documentary. |

The Cloverfield Paradox 2018
Produced by J.J Abrams, who generally seems to have something of a magic touch with TV and movie sci-fi. This production has a number of good, if generally less well known actors in the parts. Most of the drama takes place onboard a huge space station circling the Earth, which was (according to Wiki) put into orbit by 2028. Not sure how this would be technically possible, but never mind as it's not real! On Earth, there is a global energy shortage and countries are preparing to start WW3. On the space station, they are testing out a massive particle accelerator with the view to finding a method of producing limitless energy. Unfortunately, the experiments keep going wrong and eventually, the space station and crew are projected into a parallel universe. Very good sets and visual effects. The acting is not bad, but the story leaves much to be desired. It is simply stupid and filled with scientific and technical flaws. I won't say any more about what happens, but I really can't see any connection with previous Cloverfield movies, although I suspect the thinking is that previous films showed events that crossed from parallel universes. That aside, you will start to think you've seen sequences from other films like Alien, Life, Star Trek, etc, etc. Best of luck if you plan to watch this, but I really can't give it a very good rating as it didn't work for me. Yes, I know I'm generally a bit picky, but this movie could be far better with a little more attention to detail. 3.5/10 Last edited by CARLTON BROWN; March 22nd, 2019 at 04:04 PM..
