It's not just US universities, 101 just indicates an entry level course. I did two foundation courses in the Open University many years ago A101 (Arts) and D101 (Social sciences and economics)

Arts is now A102
Social sciences is now DD102

The course numbers can and do change over time.

A terrible tragedy and I wonder if someone is going to have the nerve to go up to Trump and say "well, is this what you call a Chinese conspiracy now?" which was his answer to the non-existent climate change that the rest of the world already knew was happening.

Well, your Englishman Orwell had Winston taken to "Room 101" in 1984, but that was towards the end of things for him. I think "101" in US academic jargon predates that, however.

I just remembered, in 7th grade gym class days were alternated with 2 other classes, art and music depending upon semester. How did I forget about that?

I must be getting old.

Sort of a waste, as I recall. Maybe I would have taken more interest in art if I had been allowed to draw naked women or sculpt them in clay and submit them for credit.

I remember that some of our juicier female classmates got drawings of them done on occasion and these would be passed around with much snickering. Drawing dirty stuff on the desks was a source of amusement too, though this was a somewhat risky endeavor. If caught, a trip to the office to see the principal was pretty much the order of the day.

True he did indeed but in his case Orwell used Room 101 as the being the worst nightmares of the people sent there-with Winston I think it was rats as he was afraid of them and yes I did read the book at school.

I am probably a glass half full person, but all I think about after reading this is Challenger and Apollo 13 with untrained people. Musk keeps saying it is dangerous.
