7zip treats these .001 files just like a spanned .rar file, joining them automatically as they're unpacked. No need for any extra joining software and it's nice, clean freeware. I've never had a problem with it. Don't know why no one ever seems to mention it.

To find 7zip, just do a search on your engine of choice.

Hope this helps.

As an afterthought to my previous post, I also find that 7zip unpacks .rar files with fewer problems than Winrar.

Default Mac OSX 10.4 HJ Split

Have downloaded avi.001/2/3 files from megaupload, which all say "This file cannot be opened. This is not a movie file" when I click on them directly on my desktop. The info on the download said join with HJ Split but cannot find an HJ Split connector/opener to sort them out. Any suggestions gratefully received! Using Mac OSX 10.4

Many thanks Debseddy - used "Split & Concat" and got them to work.

I have run into some trouble extracting the following files:
Code:
smwp4(0).001
smwp4(1).002
smwp4(2).003
smwp4(3).004
smwp4(4).005
The uploader recommends jzip, however I cannot get jzip to extract more than the 1st file. I have already tried 7zip and HJsplit, with no luck.

Hoping a jzip user sees this post and is willing to help. Thanks!

have you tried HJSplit with the "join" option first and then jzip (i guess it will also work with unrar) to extract the file you've gained after using HJSplit?

it's been said you need to do both to create the moviefile.

Thanks hos, but the uploader (oedipus) does not mention a 2 step process, he only mentions jzip [GeorgeMcSoon suggests HJsplit].

billybunter you need to use the free jzip to unrar my files
As I mentioned, I did try HJsplit upon GeorgeMcSoon's advice. I ended up with a file that was the same size as just one of the individual parts.

Not to mention the fact that jzip installs a FF hijack that takes over the home page
VEF member chupachups helped me solve this unpacking issue.

What it doesn't mention, but what I believe makes this unique amongst similar utilities is its ability to join .001 files without the need for additional programs like HJSplit. Just right-click on the first file and unzip it as normal and it automatically joins the all the files in sequence. I should point out, however, that it will only join .001 files, it won't split them.
You can download it from here: http://www.jzip.com/. Click on the Products tab on their web page and download the Corporate version which comes without any add-ons such as Google toobars etc.
Regards.
I wish I had read this post earlier. I downloaded the standard version of jzip and was infected with a FF hijacker that took control of my home page.

I thought it would be best to post this question here, rather than in the movie's thread.
I am having trouble joining the following files, in order to make a complete movie:
Code:
Wild Dallas Honey - (1982) chunk1.avi
Wild Dallas Honey - (1982) chunk2a.avi
Wild Dallas Honey - (1982) chunk2b HC.avi
Wild Dallas Honey - (1982) chunk3.avi
Wild Dallas Honey - (1982) chunk4.avi
Wild Dallas Honey - (1982) chunk5a.avi
Wild Dallas Honey - (1982) chunk5b HC.avi
Wild Dallas Honey - (1982) chunk5c.avi
Wild Dallas Honey - (1982) chunk6a.avi
Wild Dallas Honey - (1982) chunk6b HC.avi
Wild Dallas Honey - (1982) chunk7a.avi
Wild Dallas Honey - (1982) chunk7b HC.avi
Wild Dallas Honey - (1982) chunk7c.avi
Wild Dallas Honey - (1982) chunk8.avi
Should I be changing the file names so that they have the .001, .002 etc extensions (prior to joining)? Thanks!
