Ahh to be technical, Donald Pleasance wasn't cast as Blofeld originally. A Czech actor called Jan Werich was originally cast by Harry Saltzman, and actually filmed for a few days - but Lewis Gilbert and Cubby Broccoli thought he wasn't menacing enough. He was fired for looking more like a "poor benevolent Santa Claus".

Oh, and Max von Sydow played him in "Never Say Never Again"..

Yes but NSNA wasn't sanctioned by EON so it doesn't and shouldn't count as it was also remake of Thunderball.

Big Grin Blofeld part 2 / and " Cubby " revelation.

It was also Anthony Dawson and the voice of Eric Pohlmann in Thunderball. Some say that the voice is the one of Joseph Wiseman. They are wrong.
Some also say that Dawson (Dent in Dr No) is the silhouette we can see and is also the voice. They are wrong too. (Ref: I know that from Terence Young first, Peter Hund said that also to me ) But I admit I long thought that Dawson was also the voice.)

Ah yes, the real name of the cat in OHMSS is Cubby.
But I do not know if this is his birth name, or a joke team, of Savalas or Lazenby, or Diana Rigg who is a woman with a lot of humor. For example, at the end of OHMSS when she drops on the thighs of Bond, and he is crying because she is dead, Lazenby told me that he found it hard to play, because she pinched him for Laughs (I do not know where to ....). It must be said that they were together at the time. (Lazenby told me this with great modesty).
So, and it's true, everybody, on the set, called the cat " Cubby ".

Big Grin Blofeld again

Speaking of Blofeld..
It is curious that in the movie, he tries to impersonate the Count Balthazar de Bleuchamp,( blue field ) although originally, in the book of Ian Fleming, ( books of Fleming are my Bible ) the name is Count Balthazar de Bleuville.( blue town ) !
I regret not having thought of this question to Peter Hunt at our various meetings. But it's too late now...

Also, what is your favorite Blofeld, my friends fans of 007 ? I have a preference for Savalas, although Pleasance was remarkable in Yolt.
Gray in DAF was, for me, too stupid, and I'm not talking about the scene where he disguises himself as a woman ....
Referring to the original characters of Fleming, a mixture of Pleasance and Savalas would have been perfect. Pleasance for his evil and psychopath side, Savalas for his bestial side, athletic, and physically very "Eastern countries" to me, and yet... he was Greek origin.

Interesting thoughts Mr Bond.... incidentally, did you know that Telly was also Jennifer Aniston's godfather... her real surname being the much longer 'Anistonopoulis' rather than the shortened version her family changed it to...?

For sheer menace I would say Donald Pleasance every time especially with his facial deformity. Charles Gray was a little too smooth and Telly Savalas lacked real menace although he made a good villain.

OK.. disallowing Max von Sydow... I'm sure thst it was no accident that Woody Allen's costume as Jimmy Bond in the glorious mess that is the first Casino Royalr is the same kind of suit favvoured by Blofeld...

Whoo hooo! The countdown to the new James Bond film SPECTRE begins-expect hype and counter hype, speculation, conspiracy theories and no doubt there will be people who wonder if it will be Craig's last(he is contracted to do one more). I was more than interested to see that Idris Elba's name was mentioned as a possible future Bond. I also noticed this moron Rush Limburgh in America is against a black James Bond...well to shut him up, I think Elba would make a good Bond, regardless of what colour he is, it will silence morons like Limburgh and others-after all who knew that the US would have a Black President! Anything is possible. Watch this space.

Big Grin My Doctor says NO !

It is not to be racist to say Bond is White. Shaft is black and can't be white. I like Bond, and I like Shaft ( with Roundtree ).
It is not because whe are in 2015, that we can change and change everything.
But, if they want to do the adventures of another 00, it will be fun. And I will be the first in the theater to see that !

Wouldn't Idris Elba be a bit too old to be 007? Daniel Craig is signed up for the next movie (in 2018 presumably). So it might be 2021 before the next actor. He'd be the oldest actor to debut as Bond by then at nearly 50.
