That's so true.
That's the second time in a raw during a game that Mbappe behaves very unfairly.

Belgium was cooked. All the team was tired apart mayb Hazard.

Deschamps brought the old Italian spirit that he learned when playing with the Juve.

Well that was underwhelming, I expected a better game and lets face it, half the Belgian squad play in this country anyway so we would have known what the players were like from the Premier League. Mind you some French play here too so that could be an advantage but Mbappe looked very good and Matuidi had a good game so it won't be easy if England get through to the final-the 2nd semi-final against Croatia tomorrow won't be easy either.

I've watched a very nice documentary about this.
At the beginning of the World Cup and the international games, Southern American teams played very fairly and with an opened mind behaviour.

When they first met European teams, they were shocked how unfair the European players were.
They came back to South America and TOTALLY changed the way to play, becoming extremely brutal and unfair.

That was very interesting to see how "artistic" were Southern American players in the 1920's. It almost was ridiculous, because too "precious".
It was the case of the Uruguayan team. But one decade later, they became terrible butchers, sawing legs and breaking knees without any pity.

I agree, Bwlgium made too many mistakes and weren't at their top level. Also we really missed Meunier at our right flank (Cadly prefes the left). But those are just excuses.

On the plus sides, no more stress for me

Belgium looked like a cyclist who got back on the bike again tonight after two hard long rides, but couldn't find the right gear.
France have displayed the classic WC trait of starting indifferently but slowly improving to the point that they look a solid team. Not invincible, but with a very solid defence. Pogba played very, very well tonight, Kante was as busy as ever and Varane and Pavard are looking class defenders.
Belgium never quite gelled; at this stage that means you are vulnerable. The team that dragged themselves back against Japan and upstaged and outfought Brazil peaked too early and they hadn't got enough left to complete the job.
France looked really quite comfortable - Umtiti scored but is intensely irritating with his feigning injury but this is a good young team, maturing quickly. They visibly improved once they took the lead and thereafter Belgium seemed to fade. That first goal was critical - for Belgium this was a match too far.
For France, a chance to go into a final as favourites, but not so convincing that it's a forgone conclusion.

If Belgium had won, I would have had a quiet night. Now it's like a giant riot here in town. I can say goodbye to my sleep

It was a great game, not the most spectacular but tense. Technically both teams deserved to win. But France had a surprising inspiration with Umtiti who scored (he never scores), as Pavard scored against Uruguay.
Unexpected inspirations are the main strenght of that team and it's not new. With a defense going better from game to game. And a terribly good M'bappé.
Hazard was really great again, but a bit lonely. And a team with a way to play too stereotyped...

Congratulation to Belgium
I can't wait France vs England now

Oh and the move to push Fellaini further upfield really didn't work. In the Brazil match he excelled at breaking up play in front of the defence and setting up the Belgian midfield. Tonight he was far less effective albeit getting the final touch on the winning goal. He started to once again resemble the gert lummocks familiar to Goodison and Old Trafford attendees.

I guess Belgium didn't want it bad enough.

Oh well, there is always 2022.

Default Cliche Driven

It was a disciplined and textbook match.

Both teams ~ imo ~ never deviated from their ordered roles, and as such
Tactics Ruled.
Not a blockbuster of a match, when you have almost every player keeping to a script. Never deviating and innovation or individual flair is ruled out.... because it's dangerous.

With hindsight, it seems pretty obvious it would be 'set-pieces' or even a Penalty that broke the ice..... or won the match.

I still enjoyed it, even though it was "cliche-driven" with both schematics almost nuetralising each other.

What I enjoyed, in retrospect, is that neither side is dirty.
And both sides wer cr@p with cissy-type dives.

To echo others, thank you God for sending the South Americans home.

Neymar especially....

And the match was helped by having a decent ref, who'd notably performed well in the early rounds. Let's hope tonight's official is as competent. I suspect it could get frayed and physical; England have a habit of fading and Croatia have played a lot of time on the pitch. When fatigue sets in, the challenges get later and tolerance goes and sits on the bench. A testy, tired Croatia might succeed in winding up an inexperienced, anxious England. There might be tears before bedtime.
