Keyhole Club
I've found my 1970 members' card for the Keyhole Club! I've a feeling this club is not the same one as the club mentioned in the previous posts. The address of the club where I was a member is Old Compton Street W.1. The tout on the door guaranteed that all the girls stripped completely bare (and they did!) Admission ten shillings. I thought, I'll have some of this. So I went down the stairs and the bloke at the bottom said, 'You are a member, of course.' Membership was another ten shillings. I thought I was wandering into a rip-off, but it was actually a bargain. That ten shilling fee included membership also at:
The Perfumed Garden - Greek Street. Blue City - Peter Street Gigi Theatre Club - Frith Street Oriental - Dean Street Folies Bergere - Greens Court and the Paradise Club - Brewer Street. All W. 1 addresses. That's what I call value for money. (Ten shillings = fifty pence) and it was superb entertainment. |

Enfin!
Enfin....a closing scene in the very French of traditions...and woven into the plot line (you'll just have to watch the whole film if you're interested!) This is much more to do with 'tease' than 'strip'...but the scene is so glamorous, I still find the act of taking off jewellry sexy!
I love the setting of this scene...if it was in colour, the colours would be sumptuous indeed...all that red velvet, moody cigarette smoke lingering above the tuxedos and evening dresses, the lights reflecting in the stage mirrors. To be perfectly honest, I really don't mind that she doesn't take a stitch of actual clothing off...does that make me a striptease deviant who the authorities should be keeping an eye on? |

Rosemary the Maid
Prompted quietly by a striptease aristocrat I know, I present a little pictorial of Rosemary England's performance as a saucy maid in 'Queen of the Blues'. This spans quite a few threads I'm fond of, but I guess this is the main one.
I won't review the film at all..it's not worth it, but I do find Rosemary and her show very pleasant- most of my image of this film has been of Mary Millington (as already covered), but it looks like Rosemary was also a very sexy thing of her time! I particuarly like Rosemary slipping her little white apron back on at the end- it would have been lovely to have seen her strike some very steamy poses with the apron trying to keep things still under wraps! |

Sexy Secretary!
With an extremely grateful tip of the hat to spooled, Sir Spender (who alerted me to spooled's post) and everyone else who has mentioned this rare gem, I couldn't resist focusing in on the gorgeous secretary striptease by Silki St. James in 'Here It Is Burlesque'....sexy with various Ss and Xs..and in the classic striptease tradition.
It's quite a surprise just how rare Miss St. James material is. She looks quite some performer to me...and this show is laced with as much theatricality as many of my ultimate striptease fantasies. Mod Edit: Dead link removed Last edited by mashedpotato; February 7th, 2012 at 08:43 AM.. |

Aw smeg you beat me to it, I also made a copy of it-never mind, it was quite something and pretty daring for 1979-mind you she means nothing to me having only been 13 at the time and not really into American burlesque, let alone knowing what it meant-apart from seeing "The Night they Raided Minskys" which starred our own Norman Wisdom and a post Dr No-Joseph Wiseman.
Back to that video it was interesting to note that other stripper Tammy someone was using the same device-bathing in a champagne glass as Dita von Teese, so she must have come up with the idea first and Ms Teese 'borrowed' the idea.

Smeg!
All good stuff Greenman- I just knew as a renowned 'purist' you'd have your eyes in this particular scene!
Your Tammy comment focuses my mind on the genesis of all these notions and ideas...here's 1979's generation (and a little older!) celebrating a bygone golden era of entertainment (a la Minskys)....and then time passes and performers celebrate/ borrow(!!) from the acts who are in turn celebrating....and so on and so forth. This tells me the importance of history and being respectful towards it...and continuing legacies without being totally pastiche. In my humble opinion, anyone interested in striptease these days (young and not so young) should be at least aware of performance culture like this. In a way, I find the whole spirit of Silki's show quite a bit more alluring than much of the current scene- I find myself constantly campaigning for a burlesque spirit....with a naughty twist! If Ginger Valentine was ever tempted to slip her pasties and panties off on stage, that would be more than enough for me! And talking of precedence, I see Candie Evans' 'Stag Party' secretary strip in the same spirit as the Miss St James' routine...I wonder if it was an influence at all? |

Ah yes I thought I had seen that somewhere before-and did you notice that Silki was typing but there was no paper in the machine-would have ruined the ribbon that was before she shoves it into the waste bin
Here is an old pic of Silki I found as well as Ann Corio-wow! she was hot back then and also produced an album AND I also found something else interesting re the champagne glass it would appear Kitten did it too-so did Dita lift it from her too?
