Default Crimewatch axed by BBC after 33 years

...all the above was stated in my post...

But I digress:

Crimewatch, one of the BBC's longest-running shows, is being axed after 33 years.

The programme, which asks viewers for help to track down criminals, is hosted by Jeremy Vine and Tina Daheley.

The BBC said in a statement: "We are incredibly proud of Crimewatch and the great work it has done over the years.

"This move will also allow us to create room for new innovative programmes in peak time on BBC One." Daytime series Crimewatch Roadshow will continue.

The Sun, which first broke the story, said ratings had suffered as it was scheduled against Cold Feet and Broadchurch.

Three episodes have aired this year - in February and March - watched by an average of almost three million viewers. That is down from 14 million who watched at its peak.

Methinks Crimewatch's place in TV history is secure, since the show helped solve various murders, including the tragic case of toddler James Bulger.

Unless a you know a crime in your local area will be featured I've never understood why anyone would want to watch this program. What's the point of watching a reconstruction of an off-licence robbery at the other end of the country?
Haven't seen the program for years but I was always amused how the actresses in the reconstructions were always much better looking than the real victims.
The director probably thought 'I know it's grim work but let's at least get a good looking bird in'

Agree! All it ever did for me was make me feel uncomfortable despite living in an area with very little crime.

I'm guessing that in this age of bystanders filming incidents on phones and rampant CCTV, what's the point of asking several million random people "Did you see anything?"

I was always loved the way They tried to get women to report Their partners," We can easily eliminate Them if they're innocent" That'd be a tense homecoming..

Mainly because these days many CCTV shots of suspects are still so shit you probably wouldn't recognise them if they were sat in the same room as you

All they need to do is wear a hat and plain clothing you've bugger all chance of catching them

A man in Saxony collapsed after leaving the railway station. He had not less than a alcohol level of 6,52 per mille. The police took him to a sobering up at their police station.
He declared, he would have drunken only "1 Maß" of bear (= 1 litre).

I think this would be several times the lethal dose for me.

Akhani is well known of "Kıyamet Günü Yargıçlar"ı“ (The Judges of the Armageddon) which addresses the genocide at the Armenians.

The Spanish police was prepared of an evident terrorist by the Turkish police at the arresting of the author with a special force, with automatic Weapons, bullet prove wests ect..

They were obviously not bad surprised, as there appeared a 60 years old man with glasses and balding hair at the hotel room door.

He is set free actually, but he is not allowed to leave Madrid. (at his own costs of course !!)

(One should be wondering, how Turkey could know that Mr. Akhani was on vacancy in Grenada.)
After arrest in Spain Cologne author Akhanli abused on arrival in Duesseldorf

Duesseldorf - On the return of the Turkish-born author Dogan Akanli from Spain, an incident occurred on Thursday evening at the Duesseldorf airport.

Only a few moments after the writer had entered the arrivals hall, he was loudly insulted by a man in Turkish. According to Akhanli's attorney Ilias Uyar, the man described the writer as a "traitor to the country". There was a long, agitated exchange between the two.
Akhanli annoyed by the incident at the airport

"I actually came to Germany with very happy feelings," Akhanli said afterwards. Now, however, he was somewhat annoyed by the incident. "But probably - in half an hour I'll be happy and relaxed again."

Apparently, the man was a taxi-driver who was waiting for a customer at the airport and happened to come by. Akhanli said the man had also told him that "this country" could not save him, no matter where he was.
The Spanish authorities did not extradite Akhanli.

Akhanli was arrested on August 19 during a holiday in Andalusia, on the basis of a so-called "Red Notice" for Interpol, the international police organization, on behalf of Turkey. A day later, he was free, but could not leave Spain at first. Last Friday, the Spanish government decided not to hand the German citizen to the authorities in Ankara.

1 Maß? Sounds more like Bavaria.
