You see the Playboyplus stuff and it seems only a matter of time before they have the models - many of whom are 'pornstars' anyway - spreading pussy and using dildos.

As has been pointed out by several people in this thread already, Playboy Plus isn't owned by Playboy anymore.

I read on another forum that Playboy is going back to nudity in the magazines in 2017. I haven't been able to confirm this definitively. Has anyone seen or read such news?

Goodfella, ever since Cooper Hefner started making a stink over the non-nude issues back in February 2016 (and rightfully so!), there have been rumours going around that nudes were coming back. Since October, Cooper has taken over as Cheif Creative Officer, but unfortunately said that there are no plans to go back to nudes in the immediate future . I think he's under pressure to keep the mag the way it is for now. It seems to me that the mag is putting in more bare bums, and see-thru nipple shots though...which could be a good sign.

Thanks for the info. That's what I was afraid of since I didn't see it confirmed anywhere else. That is the kind of the announcement that should be easy to find online.

We all know that if PB go back to publishing nudes again, it will be crap. They lost their touch years ago, and I simply see any way of hauling that back in. The truth is that they have lost ground on all fronts.
Back in the late 1980s when I was actually able to legally purchase magazines with naked ladies in them, I would pick up a copy of PB with my copy of Club International. The latter was a "porno" - albeit with no pink shots and nothing like today's incarnation - it was published for the express purpose of being a wank mag. And that is what I used it for. PB, and the special editions, were for looking at and admiring fantastic female bodies. And yes, I did often wank over many of the photos too - but for different reasons. In Club, these were girls who simply wanted to fuck. In PB, they were like the girls next door you actually fancied. In the late 1980s (I bought my first copy in April 1989, with Erika Eleniak on the cover and the lovely (and sadly late) Jennifer Lynn Jackson as the centrefold. When I looked at Jennifer in her normal everyday clothes at university, she was like the cute chicks I would meet outside the lecture hall. When I turned the page and saw her naked and that fantastic red bush, it gave me a thrill that almost surpassed the ruder, more brash open-legged shots in Club. It was all in my head rather than simply on the page. Most of the centrefolds, at least until the mid-1990s, were like this. Then, for some reason, the permatan started appearing, closely followed by more and more fake tits. Then, tattoos. After a while, they looked like pneumatic factory-produced dolls. Not like the girl next door, and a country mile away from the pretty sweet things I'd watch on the hockey field (To say... I was not some pervert hanging around sports pitches; my then girlfriend was in the university hockey team!) So, over time, the quality of the models in Playboy sank. They just didn't give me the same thrill. Then there are the articles. Yes, some of us did actually read them, and for a smart guy like me who also liked looking at naked girlies it was a pretty decent cover-to-cover read. You would see some fine and fresh tits and bush, and then get to read a cerebral article on the political situation in Northern Ireland or an interview with a younger Donald Trump. Most of the subjects were solid, and the interviews were worth reading as the interviewees were interesting. But as the quality of the models collapsed, so did the quality of the articles and interview subjects. In the early 1990s you could reel off some great interviews - Tom Cruise, Donald Trump, Stephen Hawking, Martin Scorsese, Robert Maxwell, Ralph Nader, Anne Rice (actually my ex-gf really loved that one). And more besides. As time went on, there were fewer really big interviews with worthwhile people, second-string sports stars, and actors who were more "fashionable" than genuinely interesting. The reality was that the magazine was living on borrowed time as the millennium ticked by. The recent decision to shelve the nudes was a practical one, an attempt to boost flagging sales by competing with general men's interest magazines on shelves that the title previously would not have been allowed to sit on. The problem is that GQ, Esquire and so on already had a well-established style, and PB's desperate attempts to compete were just that - desperate. If they bring back the nudes, they will almost certainly lose those customers the PG-rated version has managed to pick up - with no guarantee that they will will pull in the readers from elsewhere. It will be its last hurrah.

The Playboy that most of us know and love is dead and gone and never coming back even if they decide to publish nude centerfold models again. We're now in a digital age. Also, the competition is too fierce. I can go to a search engine and find a bevy of beautiful women with a few clicks of a mouse. I no longer need a subscription to a magazine to adore and bask in the beauty of women. Even if Playboy featured nude playmates of the months, I would eschew the print option in favor of digital. I can store many thousands of gigs on a hard drive and not have to keep piles of magazines.
I started acquiring Playboy magazines when I was in my teens. On of my very first issues was June 1987, which was Donna Edmondson's PMOY issue. From there, I had just about every issue up through the mid 2000s. Sharkhunter's quote above about "just didn't give me the same thrill" applies to me as well. I believe it was 2004 which I thought was the last good year for Playmates such as Sandra Hubby, Krista Kelly, Tiffany Fallon, Hiromi Oshima and Cara Zavaleta. Since that year, the playmates have been mostly bland. Sure, there is the occasional Shelby Chesnes, but too far and few between for me. I've always loved beautiful women and preferred the elegance of Playmates to the raunchiness of porn and I still do. However, Playboy can't compete anymore with all of the porn content available online these days and is reduced to simply being a brand. |

Oh WOW! PB going back to nude. None-nude doesn't work? Or really?
The only thing I can say is: What a bunch of clowns! |

My take.
Non-nude *could* have worked, but they also needed to have changed the direction of the models - and instead of going for basically professional nude models, they should have instead gone for ladies (thinking famous actresses, singers, tv presenters ect) who would never dream of showing the boobs and pubes for the lads - but would be open to stripping off, but using hands, bed sheets and cross legs to leave the readers imagination to fill in the gaps. But they didn't - so we are now going back to nudity. Last throw of the dice. Whoever she is across the centre in the next issue - I hope she is well known - as that is the way you announce the nekkid girls are back in the bunny mag.. ..But it won't be. It'll be some dyed blond, implanted, shaven, stupid tattoed air head, fresh out of the agency.. |
