Art Or Porn

When is something considered art and when is it considered porn ?
Is there a distinct line between the 2

Like these 2 pictures

I think it would be a safe bet if I asked 100 people which is art and which is porn what their answers would be. But they are similar in content, so where is the difference ? Which is art and which is porn ?

Just wondering, again.

Provided they`re tastefully taken i`d say the photo can be equally viewed as art

I think is a matter of personal opinion.

My personal opinion is:

This is art

This is porn (hard porn)

I'd bet it's the same forces that come into play in defining Art in the first place: an anonymous power elite that decides what is Art and what isn't, though this distinction seems be blurred nowadays when considering the pile of contemporary ShitArt that is an insult to the eye and the viewer. Why isn't porn considered an art form? Perhaps because of repression, social conventions, religious dogma, censorship. Art did start out with the drawing and painting of nudes. So what happened?

My 2 cents: I don't know but I think the "intent of the message" plays a part in the definition of both porn and art. (Here, the message--like a spoken language--is usually expressed for the people of certain cultures so that there is less chance of it being misunderstood.)

So for example, if a painting was created mostly to provoke a gratuitously sexual response then it is pornographic, if the message is mostly something else then it is artistic. [For this converstion, gratuitous is "without good reason or purpose".]

The "intent" seems incomplete by itself, but it does have the strength of being culturally relevant so that a work is "porn" in one culture or situation, but it will lack all sexual relevance in a different culture or situation. For example, I don't find bare, artificially lengthened female necks a sexual characteristic, but there are cultures where that is very erotic--the same thing can be said for 6' blonde supermodel wraiths, rock music, tea ceremonies, and fresh octopus. Ew!

Mrs e.d. suggests that chocolate should not be porn.

), but I don't think either picture is porn in my opinion. To me the term "hard core porn" is an oxymoron. That's the only porn there is, to me at least. Some people would say that Playboy is porn, but I consider that to be art. Never have I seen in Playboy, a woman spreading her legs with a double headed dildo sticking out of both orifices, trying to resemble the shape of a question mark.

I have seen that in porn mags though.

Bottom Line
If it ain't XXX, it ain't porn.

Talk about a lazy slap dash bastard

Wonder if anybody would be mug enough to buy that

Whereas this on the other hand is art to me .

Talking of hands it`s just a shame i didn`t have a free one when i took this snap

What , yes of course i stood in the street and took photos of nude paintings despite the shop having plenty of people in it , and even more outside walking past !
