Unless you had a 3d telescope, they should appear flat, circular but flat

There was a project whch researched the option to assassinate Hitler during the war. In wartime, the rules are different and there's no ethical bar to bumping off the enemy leader, should that be advantageous. But the British decided not to go ahead because it was too late to make a major difference to the outcome of the war and, correctly, the British decided that Hitler should go down in the train wreck he had made of Germany, so history would record that he was defeated rather than merely killed. There was an advantage to denying him martyr status and to displaying the final outcome of his strategic leadership. Assassinating him would not have been as effective as allowing him to dree his own weird in the Berlin bunker.

In fact, the window of opportunity for assassinating Hitler at the Berghof had already closed; he never went there after July 1944. But the British planners weren't to know that. They shelved the plan for strategic reasons.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Operation_Foxley

Arguably, someone (the British or Santa Claus) might have assassinated Hitler before WW2 and done the world a favour. But using illegal methods to bump someone off pre-emptively, just in case they might cause trouble, is a chancy business. All pre-emptive action is chancy. Britain participated in a war in 2003 against a country several thousand miles away, allegedly just in case that country might be dangerous to Britain at some future time. I for one think that this has turned out to be a poor decision; but that's only my personal opinion. I only mention this as an example to illustrate my point.

  • In principle, it's rather dumb to engage in the assassination of foreign heads of state, especially if they are popular at home. You only need to get caught doing it and it is casus belli: you can find yourself fighting a war you hadn't planned on.
  • Kill the enemy leader and you don't have anyone to negotiate with.
All things considered, I'll pass on this suggestion. If you are really determined to kill the leaders, first defeat the country, then try the leaders for war crimes, then turn them into strange fruit. This method works.

I'd have assassinated him, he was a nasty piece of work, but we followed your instructions and went to war and then killed him, and your still not happy, what's a guy to do

Stay out of other peoples' business would be my conclusion on that one. If my country is going to assassinate the leaders of other countries on the basis that they are nasty people and we don't like them, I'd rather have killed Robert Mugabe:
  1. Because he's a shit.
  2. Because he is Britain's business. I wouldn't ask for American help either: he's our business.
  3. In order to make a point about what happens to people who mess with us.
But I'm not a gangster and Britain isn't a gangster country, and that's how I like it. Mugabe will inevitably die quite soon; he's pushing into the nineties already. Let nature take its course.

Messing other countries around for financial and strategic gain is what the government is for - and if someone says "enough"???? Destroy them.

Well only a few humans who have been in orbit know if our home is a sphere or flat. Is there anywhere on earth left to explore? Strange how not one person has seen this ice wall. The physics of their theory is challenged all the time, but they stick to their guns.

I used to think the Flat Earth bunch were just having a bit of a laugh, but worryingly, some of them seem to be deadly serious!

I was thinking about trying to find out how they explained night and day in different parts of the world, because if the earth was flat, it would either be light everywhere, or dark everywhere, but having read some of their introductory blurb, I thought it would be a better use of my time to go and talk to my vacuum-cleaner as I'd get more sense from it!
