Ironically she is saying a Conservative majority at the election would be tantamount to a dictatorship. Being an expert on democracy she would know, after all the minority always wins!

The country has spoken, I think she should be charged with treason!

Mrs May was the only one found to be acting illegally and unconstitutionally according to the court.

Or do you want to get rid of them as well?

Due to the lack of checks and balances on power, the British Constitution is effectively an 'elected dictatorship' and has been described as such by academics and politicians.

Leaders such as Blair and Thatcher with large parliamentary majorities (but a minority of the popular vote) can do absolutely anything they want as long as they can maintain enough party discipline.

Am I the only person to wonder where the hell Miller was when successive Governments gave away, without any debate, Parliamentary control.

And as at least three members of the Supreme Court, failed to declare their interests in the EU, contrary to the rules of the Court then it needs to be looked at. First thing is to stop calling it Supreme as the people who sit there may start thinking they are omnipotent.

All the EU Treaties agreed most notably the Maastricht Treaty passed under a Tory Gov't in the European Communities (Amendment) Act 1993, were fully debated and voted on and passed by Parliament. (Likewise the Single European Act 1987)

There was a lot of controversy particularly for John Major, don't you remember? We could have had a referendum on it like some other European Countries but John Major decided against it.

I wonder if judging by the increasing number of political posts here whether this thread shouldn't be renamed Things Noticeable in Politics This Week? I'd be all for that seeing as that appears the way this thread is going.

Another terrorist threat to London, this time a man is arrested in Whitehall brandishing knives!! It hasn't gone away folks!

Not really surprising to be honest with so many high profile recent elections across the globe and the Korean issue these things are fresh in people's minds. There are plenty non political posts here.
Perhaps a better idea would be to start a "Non political things noticeable this week" thread but if it is filled with exciting stuff like weather reports and updates on local roads I suspect it will soon fade into insignificance.

I remember Ireland had a referendum, they were told by Brussels to do it again, and make sure it came back with a yes! Perhaps why Major decided not to waste the time and money?

I remember Kenneth Clark admitting that he didn't need to read the Maastricht Treaty because he thought the concept was a good idea. Fully debated my arse.

As a pro European I hate the buggers muddle that the politicians have made of a good idea. A boys club for sacked politicians.

I'd like to think that people have a bit more to say that talking about the weather(although that is a national pasttime in this country) and local road updates BUT it was more to find out what was happening your area as well as in the four parts of the country that make up Britain. It is possible that something exciting might have happened like a robbery, a major car crash or something amazing happened to you - as I have outlined a fair few times here, so it can work.

The bias by the British media has been cranked up, both by ITV and the BBC.

Scary, how the media are controlling people.
