Default split screen/ picture-in-picture program/software question

Hope I post this in the right section.

I´m looking for some software/program that allows you to make split screen videos like this one. I also want to be able to add own music, and/or pictures.
The effect I´m reefering to starts about ten seconds in this video.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cKFSfis6_JM

I have windows 8, and my version of windows movie maker can´t do this. I´ve also tried programs like video pad editor and virtual dub, but neither has this ability.

Anyone who can recommend any program?

Thanks in advance.

Best wishes dlnhank.

This is possible with Avisynth, in combination with, for example, Virtualdub.
I even have two sample filters for you. I haven't yet tried them myself, I just saved them years ago just in case:

Horizontal split screen:
Code:
a = AviSource("L:\File 1.avi")
b = AviSource("L:\File 2.avi")

StackHorizontal(a,b)
Multiple split screen:
Code:
a = AviSource("L:\File 1.avi")
b = AviSource("L:\File 2.avi")
c = AviSource("L:\File 3.avi")
d = AviSource("L:\File 4.avi")
e = AviSource("L:\File 5.avi")
f = AviSource("L:\File 6.avi")
g = AviSource("L:\File 7.avi")
h = AviSource("L:\File 8.avi")
i = AviSource("L:\File 9.avi")

StackHorizontal(StackVertical(a, b,c), StackVertical(d,e,f), StackVertical(g,h,i))
copy the text to Notepad or so, replace the file paths with your own file paths and save the file with an avs extension. Then load that file with Virtualdub or another video encoder. Of course you must have Avisynth installed to make the filters work.

Default Program to catch image samples from video

Is there a program to capture some pics from a video and make a GIF image, representing the video?
I mean, something like we see at mod edit: banned link removed , related videos area, when we hover the mouse on it.

@Mod exfarmer:
Sorry for posting streaming links on previous post. It will not occur anymore.

Explaining better, I'm not looking for a contact sheet program, but one that could extract different moments from a video and make a animation GIF image from that, looping the different pics.

If you're on a Mac, I highly recommend Snapz Pro for this

A good free alternative is GifCam. Unlike Licecap, GifCam gives you lots of options. Though it isn't compatible with Mac.

I'm looking for some software that will create a secret folder where I can store my photos, videos etc away from prying eyes. In the past I've used something called Steganos but this doesn't seem to work on Windows 8. There seems to be a lot of products out there, some extremely complicated, but all I need is something that will prevent the wife or kids from finding my collection. How do other VEF members keep their files personal? Thanks.

I would try TrueCrypt. It's free and open-source. It's more commonly used to encrypt an entire disk, but you can set up a virtual, encrypted disk in a file. No-one looking at the file will even know that it is really a TrueCrypt volume. You'll have to specify the size of the disk at the start though, so it might not be appropriate for a gigantic collection.

But can you not just create a hidden folder in Windows 8?

Thanks. Perhaps you can create a hidden folder in Windows 8. I've just bought a new machine and am still learning how to use Windows 8!

Thank you birchplow and deepsepia.

I'm on a PC, not Mac.

Both GifCam and LiceCap are interesting tools, but none of them are what I'm looking for. They are screen capture.

As I said, I'm looking for some kind of tool that search a video folder and make GIF files doing extracting few frames from each video. That task would be automatic.

Unfortunately, I cannot post a website from where I got the idea, but it's a very popular one that shows frames from each video, when we hover the mouse on its thumbnails.

I'm looking for the same thing, but not to put on a website. Just for myself and my folders.
