Froome cracks! Well done to Romain Bardet! What an awesome stage! Froome is human after all! It's going to get messy!

Eventually, Bardet won and Aru will wear the yellow jersey. I didn't expect this.
It seems Froomey is not so strong and maybe he will not win this Tour. The end of the Tour will be exciting. |

Another great stage finish today and it's wonderful to see some genuine competition for the Yellow jersey. Doesn't Bardet look like a champion-in-waiting? Maybe not this year, but he must be the best French jersey contender since the loathesome Virenque. Whatever happens, I'm already looking forward to next year's race as well! Tomorrow could be a really exciting stage - after today, all eyes will be on Froome and seeing what advantage can be gained over him. He didn't look good at the end - a man needing another gear but couldn't find one...

The bright spot today for Sky was the performance of Landa who looks in great form again and highly motivated now up to 7th @2.55 Landa's a great breakaway rider and if Sky let him go, Astana with Cataldo out and Fulgsang injured will struggle to bring him back and may leave Aru isolated. The rest of Sky could just sit on Astana's wheels.

I really like Team Sky, but I said to a friend of mine that I thought someone else might win this year. I am still of the view that Froome will win, but with a small margin. It's nice to see other names on the podium & wearing the Yellow jersey!

Uran and Bennett penalised 20 secs for taking late bottle. Bardet does exactly the same but is not. French jury by any chance?

No excuses, he must take the same penalty. Watching the run-in at the end of today's stage was one of the most memorable things I've ever seen in sport. Stunning stuff. Froome proved to be human after all but his rivals would be mad to underestimate him. Aru won by simply hitching a lift at the end of the Sky train. Perhaps Froome should have a team-mate riding behind him to disrupt Aru? Great ride from Mikel Landa for Sky, doing a Froome to Froome's "Bradley Wiggins" from the 2012 tour. He told Spanish radio he could have won the stage but team orders scuppered his chances. A very interesting Tour is becoming even more so

Otherwise, it's not a French jury. UCI jury is international.
Bardet took a bottle from a fan, so that's permite. Uran seems to take a bottle from his car and it's not allowed. |

Article 12.1.040/23.2 of the UCI rules, which says that are not allowed to take food and drink within the first 50km or the last 20km of races. If other people can hand feeds and bottles then the rule becomes pointless. According to Vaughters, Mariën first accused Uràn of taking a bottle from team staff. Vaughters said that hand-up came from a super-fan, not someone with Cannondale-Drapac. “The guy who fed Rigo doesn’t work for us. We clearly didn’t tell him to give him an illegal feed,” said Vaughters “This UCI guy, Phillipe Mariën is making it up as he goes. It’s incredible incompetence. “We would prefer that nobody was penalized but if you have to penalize someone, you have to penalize Bardet as well,” Vaughters added. Mariën did not respond to requests for comment late on Thursday. |

Bearing in mind that these guys are super athletes, I find that incredible! Why would you take a bottle from a fan? What might be in it? Remember that Frome had urine thrown at him, what iof the drink contained an illegal substance or something that might cause illness? No sorry this was a plant, there is no way that a rider at this level would take the chance.
The race jury might be international, but they are running the Tour, er? |
