PATHETIC! What a farce, taking away the penalties rather than deduct from a French rider, the rule book may as well go in the bin. Farcical!

Well, another superb day's racing in this shorter, Vuelta-style stage and if they are going to be this good, then the more the merrier. I thought Bardet would have made a stronger bid to breakaway but delighted for a well deserved stage win for one very, very happy Frenchman. Chapeau!

It seems to be more difficult for Froome this year.
The "Alpes" stages can be decisive, but why this stage against time after?

If you watched live ITV4 you would have heard an awkward interview between Ned and Dave and a 'female' called 'Pippa York' who was finished 4th in the (men's) TDF in 1984. In case anyone was confused as I was for a minute this is or was Robert Millar now living as a woman apparently. I read tabloid rumours in Richard Moore's biography but thought it might just be hype. But the reasons for Millar's low profile since retirement can be explained by this.

I too was confused at Pippa York, especially the deepish Scottish accent, but good luck to Robert/Pippa, bought a lot of enjoyment to we poor folk who could never make the level they do, and apparently Robert Millars contributions to Cycling magazines are now being written as Pippa York, It takes raw courage to ride the tour, and even more to come out. I would still be delighted to shake her hand!

That said great stage yesterday! footstep, I think Froome said it all after the race when her said 'No excuses, I just did not have the legs'. Remember too he was involved in a hit and run in Monaco a few months ago.

Vaughters supplied race jury president Philippe Marien with video footage showing Bardet taking a drink from the side of the road at the same point, and said that if Uran and Bennett were to be penalised so too should Bardet. The jury then decided to backtrack on the penalty, which means Uran is back to being just 35 seconds behind Tour leader Fabio Aru in fourth place overall.

Bardet did not pour the water over himself - the bottle was not raised above his head.

I think the rest are hoping Froome will weaken. They can't attack so easily as they are going at such a high pace each and every day. And there's still Dan Martin looking to get into a podium position and a certain Columbian who is quietly riding a very impressive tour, plus Mr Yates who I'm sure would like a stage win to confirm the white jersey. It could be a heck of a week.
