Intercut scenes in classic movies

I'm currently working my way through (archiving the best scenes for posterity while doing so) a pile of old (late '80s / early 90s) long-since-deleted porn movies on VHS from companies like DBM, Magma and others (posters in Germany at least will know these labels) and indeed other companies too. Films that will (sadly) most likely never see the light of day on DVD.

There truly is some great stuff in these movies (sexy, natural women, lots of suspender belts & stockings, hairy snatches etc.) - far superior to the constant diet of completely naked Barbie dolls performing circus acts that seems to make up 99.9% of today's porn.

However, it's still a shame just how many of these old movies were "spoiled" to some degree by the constant intercutting between two - or sometimes even three - different scenes. And sometimes even betwen a porn scene and a "plot" scene.

I mean like there you are enjoying the hot sex on the screen, and suddenly there's an abrupt cut to 2 different performers just sitting talking in another location. Then it's back to the sex for a couple more minutes ... then back to the takling couple ... then back to the sex ... then back to the talking couple who have now started removing their clothes ... then back to the first couple ... etc. etc.

WHAT A PAIN !! WHAT A SHAME !!! WHY DID THEY DO IT LIKE THAT AND RUIN THE FLOW???!!

And it makes archiving (i.e. making a single coherent scene of the scenes that you want, cutting out all the crap) a time-consuming nightmare sometimes.

I don't watch much "modern" porn, but from the little I have seen, such intercutting doesn't seem to be as bad these days (one thing that modern directors have got right).

Just my thoughts for the afternoon in case anyone has anything to add.

I agree- I never liked it either. It's a vehicle to maintain concurrent story lines. Works ok for a novel or sitcom but they're not
for jacking off- usually.

I know what you mean.

But if I want plots or storylines, I'll watch "The Godfather" or "Lord Of The Rings".

'Plot' and 'porn' are mismatched bedfellows, IMHO.

Another pet dislike of mine is long, lingering shots of the male performers' contorted faces. Who really wants to see that? Especially when we're talking about ugly German blokes with moustaches and mullet hair-dos* .

As far as I'm concerned, the male performers are nothing but "essential props" and shouldn't be seen from any higher than the waist - or at a push the chest - up, if at all avoidable.

In the early days the industry thought it was set to go mainstream and for a while it really did look that way - in that context 'Plot' and 'porn' as well as cheesy music was essential. Remember that the full length features were only produced for play in cinemas.

But the switch to the guys face and the displays of mock ecxtasy pissed me off even then. By the time the camera got back he had already deposited most of his seed, so I guess this is about the only thing that is better now -- cancelled out a bit by an obsession with messy facials, usualy (90% at least) bought on by the guy wanking himself.

I hated it too, 9 times out of 10 the other scene was NEVER as good as the one you wanted to see all the way through
