Actually, hosiery used to be one of the most versatile subjects in fashion photography. From glamorous, story-telling shots to almost surreal arrangements, focused on the product only. I was a fashion photographer myself for more than 15 years, and apart from the fact that shooting hosiery was always quite welcome to me and most colleagues, it very often "saved" the one or the other "boring" photo strip. Back in the "good old days", we used to "pimp" the undistinguished ideas of some of the editors by a flashing stocking top here and there. Unlike today, a stylist's expertise could easily be told by the quality of the hosiery she had in her suitcases. I hardly know a product as versatile as stockings.....from still lifes to editorials. And because many brands did their "advertising" on the actual package at the POS, even those shots used to show a whole variety of photographical approaches.....
