Ah well it can`t be helped.

You`ll just have to take a little longer and put aside a bit more until you`ve got the same amount which`ll enable you to buy that laptop

I of course kid

Because if you have the money and want to buy yourself something you can afford with that money , but don`t , then you have nobody else to blame but yourself .

Default A review of LG 55LW6500 3D television

I had a 2007 Sony Bravia 40" LCD tv that had given me good service up until a month or so ago. It started to give a shadowed image on the right side when the tv was first turned on after being off for a long time.

The warranty company was originally going to order a new panel but then they called me and said they were just going to replace it with a new tv and for me to go to Best Buy and pick out what I wanted. Since I had wanted a larger tv I ended up paying the difference for this larger 55" LG. I've had it nearly a week now so here is my review.

Picture clarity When they first delivered the tv and set it up, I noticed that the picture looked very dark for such a new television. It sure didn't look like it did at Best Buy. When I got home I tried looking all through the set up and the owner's manual to try and figure out why it looked so bad. I couldn't figure it out. Later that night I was going to take one more look through the manual so I turned on the dining room light and suddenly the picture got brighter and clearer. Turns out it either ships or is setup with the Energy Saver turned on. Turning that off cleared the picture up greatly. The HD picture is very good but not noticeably better than any other tv I've seen. Grade: B+

Color Reproduction Since this is an edge lit LED I wasn't sure how it was going to reproduce colors. I've always heard that how a tv reproduced black was a good indicator of how it showed other colors. The black is not what I would call a deep total black. For instance the opening screen of Gran Turismo 5 is totally black with just the GT5 logo in the middle. While the middle is dark black, you can see some whitish light coming in from the corners. This is where the edge LED's come in as they just can't cover the whole screen. But all other colors look very good. Blues are very deep and the reds look rich and full. Color grade: B

Sound The sound is pathetic. I understand it's just part of having super thin screens as they compromise available room for speakers. The guy at the store said the speakers on these type of televisions are probably no bigger than a nice ink pen. It has no bass whatsoever so the next thing I have to do is find a low price surround sound system. Sound grade: D

Video games It does an excellent job with video games. All of my 1080p games look incredible on that large screen. Even the 720p games look better than on my old television. Video Games grade: A

On Screen Menus It has a funny menu system. When you hit the menu button, it brings up all the menus in gray boxes along the bottom of the screen. There aren't many choices either. There is nowhere to adjust contrast, brightness or anything like that. You have about 5 choices for picture and 5 for sound. Like presets if you will. There is also nowhere I can find to set the clock. It's not onscreen anywhere and it's not in the manual. I can't believe that. I have to call LG for something else and that is one of the first things I'm going to ask them. I will give it a little praise however in how they show the different inputs. Instead of just giving HDMI 1, HDMI 2, etc. it shows what the inputs physically look like. But that is countered by HDMI 1 being on the upper left of the menu while HDMI 2 and HDMI 3 are all the way over on the lower right of the menu instead of them all being together. Huh?? On Screen Menus grade: C

Remote Control Here is the stupidest part of this television. A remote control should be able to be used without having to look at the directional buttons. To do that you have to be able to feel raised up buttons easily. This remote has the directional buttons AND the enter button COUNTER SUNK below the level of the remote. You can't feel where they are. You have to look at them. Plus you have to hit them in the right place because they click instead of the whole button being pressed. It's the dumbest thing I've ever seen. Remote Control grade: F

Extras This is what is called a "Smart Television". That means it also doubles as an internet connection and it has a "Smart Home Screen" that has multiple easy buttons for things like Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, and many others and you can also browse the web from there. YouTube browsing is very clunky at best. Yes the videos will show in full screen but it's very difficult in choosing what you want to see. You have this other remote that acts as a laser pointer that you use to navigate the Smart screens and some videos are lined up along the bottom of the screen. But the other choices are to either the left or right but when you hit those buttons, it takes a very long time to bring them up and even then they are black boxes and take forever to fill in. To get to your Facebook it seems you have to go through LG's Facebook first. I don't want to do that just give me a login screen that can go straight to my account. One of the reasons I got this was for the web browsing capability but it still needs some things like Flash to be able to see some sites. I can't figure out how to load Flash on here and that is one thing I will call them about this week. The screen does swivel about 20 degrees either way which is very nice.Extras grade: C-

3D When I saw this in the store I was floored by it. I had never seen 3D on tv and wasn't expecting much from it. It is spectacular. I bought a Cousteau special on sharks and it was practically like you were in the water right there with them. Plus it uses the cheap type 3D glasses like you get in the theater and not the high priced goggle type like some other tv's use. 3D grade: A+

Ok, Cameras....I have a Samsung GX20 SLR which is a rebadged Pentax and for me it does the job and has a dustpr0of and water resistant body.

For a compact with a wide range of zoom I have a Panasonic Lumix TZ6 which as taken shots without fault

My son has an Olympus DSLR which has taken 00000's of shots and still works like the day he bought it

For hifi get a second mortgaage and buy Linn, my has given me sweet sounds for 15 years or for the thin end of the wallet go for Cambridge Audio, my son's both have these systems and they are great paired with Danish speakers by ELTAX or Uk Mordaunt Short

Mrs db just bought herself a Panasonic Viera TV and its like I just had my cataracts done.

Anything I wouldnt buy? not had much joy with my Canon Mv750i camcorder and would avoid another Canon. I had a Philips dvd recorder that lasted just 18 months before the sound out of it became a cross between minnie mouse in a cellar and a Dalek gargling with marbles.

My laptop is second hand HP with AMD Turion64 processor and I would have another in a flash. It has a spill proof keyboard with quick release to deal with all those fluids.............ahem....now distancing myself from this last comment

Smart TV's, here is what Ive done, to save money & give me more choice of what I can do with my current LCD TV's.

If you cant afford to buy a smart TV or upgrade to a Smart TV, and you have an old pc tower or can buy a new pc tower cheap.

Then hook it up to your LCD TV if it has VGA or HDMI connections.

By connecting a pc tower to my TV's which are all connected on my home network, I can, surf the net using proper browser, stream music, stream videos, all across my network from my main pc and back up drives, chat on Skype plus any other tasks for a pc.

Basically turn your TV in to a pc with a big ass screen

Excellent, On the TV's pc tower I added this Logitech wireless touch keyboard, works very well. So I can sit on the couch and operate the pc from there etc. It is a combined keyboard & mouse track pad all in one.

And I run a 3.5 mm audio cable form the pc tower to the stereo amp, its a great set up.
