I agree with you about American's being very welcoming, but what amazes me is that you went to New Hampshire without visiting Vermont. It's a lovely state and we really enjoyed Burlington on Lake Champlain. We stayed in a lovely B&B there and had a great time.

Honestly, The US is a great country to visit if you are white and stick to majority white areas. If you aren't white, stick to the major touristy areas. Going out of the beaten path, you might meet a member of the not pleasant variety. I have had several Asian friends tell me of being threaten when they were in remote locations.

Default I went in the late 90s.

Ever been to the US?

Yes about 20 years ago.

I guess the Yank members have

That's a pretty safe bet!

If so, what's the freakiest thing you saw there

On the underground system some crazy character - an old black guy, pretending to be some kind of psychic! You might see this once in a lifetime on a London tube train but in New York it seemed to be par for the course! Very entertaining!

That weapons thread and the US laws made me think of how freaky the place is, hence this thread.

Yeah that's a bit of a culture shock.

I've been once, early 90's, a mate and I had cross country driving trip there.

Yeah I went in the late 90s.

Think it was in Mississippi, a diner, ordered our food and struck up a conversation with the person making our food, asked where we were from and we told him Australia. Then it started, he said, Australia, good Christian God fearing country ....

Oh Jesus!

My mate then said he didn't believe in God .... So this bloke told us he didn't serve non believers I thought he was joking till he chased us out

How Christian of him!

Okay let's return to the thread topic instead of the Euro's decrying it and those that defend it.
If you haven't been to the US don't post here. I mean geez isn't the thread title explicit enough???

Thanks Santee

Once again mother fucking politics and anti US posts have entered a thread it wasn't intended for

I already closed a thread ( I started ) recently for just this same reason
Thought I'd start a thread here thats light hearted, maybe helpful and positive, but it just has to degenerate into rubbish, again

Some of you anti US people need your heads examined.

Back to topic and there will be no quoting or commenting on Santee's and my posts.

Michigan? That's a beautiful state, too. It's like an inner peninsula.

I would suggest that you pay attention to where you are. In the "Bible Belt" the first question usually asked is what church one belongs to and atheists are not always welcome. I would not recommend dissing religion in many areas in Muslim countries either. It is not necessary for folks to conform to outsiders standards when on their home turf.

Our State Department had to put out a travel advisory and recall several diplomats this year when some more countries made having homosexual relations a capital offense.

Schwenck wanted to know why I never visited Vermont. The story is that I went to New Hampshire with my Massachusetts brother in law to buy a large quantity of Newfoundland Screech rum. (I acquired a taste for it on a trip to the Canadian Maritimes in the 1990s and it isn't available in the Midwest.) Needless to say we never made it to Vermont. I'm sure Vermont is beautiful and full of friendlies!
