Self/less

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2140379/

Really entertaining film about a ruthless businessman with really bad interior decorating taste, dying of cancer. He is offered the chance to transplant his mind into a laboratory grown body, by a clandestine organisation.

As you might expect, not everything is above board, leading to much mayhem, and a shot at redemption.

Well worth watching.

Blue Ruin (2013)

A down & out man living in squalor in his rundown car is moved to return to his childhood home, seeking revenge against the perpetrator of a long-past family tragedy.
Grim, very bloody, & painful to watch. The main character, Dwight, is so utterly unfit for his task he's constantly putting himself & his family in harm's way, but keeps muddling ineptly on.

"Low budget" barely begins to describe it. Not one face you'll readily recognize... though there is a hit 70's TV sitcom star well hidden in the pack. More money seems to have been spent on simulating the spectacular effects of gunshot wounds than anything else. You may want a shower when it's over... or perhaps long before?

Well-crafted enough in it's way, high critical regard from both IMDB & Rottentomatoes. About as much fun as slamming you fingers in a car door, IMO.

Münchhausen (Nazi Germany, 1943)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_ivF...11X4w5QctOQQZG

Josef von Baky's famous interpretation of the fantastic adventures of Baron von Münchhausen. Although produced during the Nazi period, to mark the 25th anniversary of the UFA, it's still a classic in film history.

The Order

I really must stop watching rubbish films, I struggled through 45 minutes of this tosh.

Blade Runner - The Final Cut

Directed by Ridley Scott

This version of the Sci-fi classic reworked by Scott. He made some changes and tweaks to the original release like removing Harrison Ford's voice-over narration from original, which the studio said it earlier employed because they were afraid that we wouldn't understand the film. I think removing Ford's narration created more interest and curiosity and actually forced me to pay more attention to the story's progress. It helped that the film itself was a feast for the eyes to begin with and also I hadn't watched the film in ages so it was like discovering this "new" movie.

The most noticeable changes were the visual and sound quality which were already stunning for its time (1982) but now seemed to have been given a high-definition boost.

On friday night. Scrolling through the channels in a break during an Australian football match. I caught halfway through Hansel and Gretel Witch Hunters. I was only going to watch a few minutes because of Gemma Arterton. I ended up watching the rest of the film!

Time flies though. It didn't feel that long ago Gemma and Jeremy Renna were promoting it on Graham Norton.

Gemma Arterton 10/10

The Duellists (1977)

A strong debut by Ridley Scott and perhaps one of his best movies. The Duellists is based on a story about two French army officers who, after one of them feels offended by the other, develop a life-long feud by fighting duels until their (perception of) honor is restored...

What impressed me most about this movie was the cinematography and the clever use of filters to soften some of the scenes. The sunrise scene with Keitel using the high-speed cam was also beautiful to watch.
