Early p@ge3 scans and S*n centrespreads

Though I first discovered p@ge 3 around 78-79 when at school, I was lucky enough a few months after discovering it to have occasional access to a greenhouse/shed with a neatly kept collection of earlier copies of the S*n.

Looking through them, I soon became convinced that the paper was at its raunchiest around 1973, 1974 and 1975. The topless models were spread all over the paper, not just on the third page, and the centrespead was often a lot naughtier than p@ge3.

Offhand, I can remember a feature 'If You Can't Stand The Heat Stay Out Of The Kitchen' featuring nude models in transparent aprons with little strategically printed flowers.

Also one themed week - 'Bottoms Week' -with a full page photo of Vee Brooks wearing a silk peignoir above a bare bottom. On another day of the same week, a two page spread entitled 'Top of the Bottoms' featuring six or seven nude girls standing in line photographed from behind including Susan Shaw, Minah Bird (in white stockings) and Jilly Johnson.

I can dimly recall 'What a Spectacle' with two models wearing glasses and nothing else, also a half page photo of Leena Skoog reading a book while perfectly dressed in an ordinary top, but bottomless.

I wonder if anyone has seen or even scanned these pics ...or is this unlikely?

I know what you mean-in 1979 I was 13 but didn't get into page 3 until the early 80's when the glamourous look appeared, i.e. more shots of girls in stockings and suspenders, sometimes bare-bottomed and sometimes nude save for a furcoat(something perhaps frowned upon in today's modelling world) but back then a real turn-on. There was one picture found here recently of Kathy McKinnon showing a lot more than she should have done, which I suspect might have been an outtake that was overlooked. I don't remember Susan Shaw, Minah Bird I remember in several tv shows and films, but Jilly was absolute class. I think the very first page 3 girl I encountered would have been either Sian Adey-Jones or Samantha Fox and by then I was hooked.

Jilly Johnson deservedly had a long career on the third page, beginning as Jilly Gosden in 1972 I think and still making the occasional appearance in the late 80s - I posted one later pic in her thread.

Talking of the glamorous look, despite the best efforts of posters here and on Yahoo Groups etc, I have never seen an outstanding and memorable shot of Linda Lusardi in topless black basque, suspenders and stockings since it first appeared in the S*n.

Finally, inspired by the Monty Python Yorkshiremen sketch, I've got to say : 'Nude in a furcoat? I can remember seeing Joni Flynn 'wearing' just a couple of leaves!'

To give softcore forum fans a taste of the S*n centrespreads, here's a couple of photos scanned from a later p@ge 3 booklet. I remember these pics appeared in a copy of the S*n dating from '75 or '76.

This centrespread health/ beauty article on the benefits of milk was really just an excuse to feature these two big pictures -one featuring a girl with an idiosyncratic way of drinking through a straw. They're not trying to suggest something are they??

Not sure of the identity of the models, not really being as familiar with the girls of that date as those of 1979-84.

These two photos in fact first appeared in the S*n on 22 August 1975, pages 12-13, under the heading 'Be A Milk Topper!'

From around 1976. By British standards of the time, a mind-bogglingly hot pictorial, particularly as it appeared in an ordinary newspaper, not a top-shelf mag.

The model looks a bit familiar but I'm not sure who she is - I'm not good on the era apart from Lindsay Rudland, Babs Molyneux, Erica Creer, Katya Wyeth, Nina, Jilly or the early Jane Warner/Linda Lusardi.

This isn't the most outlandlish centrespread featured in the S*n.. I seem to remember a four page centre section featuring no less than thirty topless girls - new p@ge 3 stars - sometime in early '79, maybe including Debbie Smith.

I think the model is Geraldine June, in both cases; she went blonde about 1976.

Thanks for the ID fleabag, do you have any identification ideas for the 'Milk Topper' - post 4? From a certain angle the milkshake girl looks a bit like a younger Vanya, but it isn't her.

Stars and Stripes Forever: Bosoms and bottoms are top of the table... with Marianne Broome and Nicki Howarth.

This was removed by me from a pile, kept in a cupboard, in the greenhouse of the friend of a relation, transported under my shirt. Kept in a homework folder - I spent a couple of teenage years obsessed by Marianne Broome's nips - not that Nicki Howarth's bottom wasn't nice - but Marianne Broome's nipples were amazing. Nearly but not quite forgotten, as part of the lining of a picture frame, accompanied yours truly on 3 moves ... now scanned for VEF!
