strange-Republican Scott Brown of Massachusetts was elected 15 months ago for Ted Kennedy's old Senate seat. He posed for Pl_ _ g _ rl in the 70s I believe (as I had seen from some talk show info) and keeps his seat. Of course, an election should be respected and perhaps, the soccer moms found the time to cast votes for this conservative who was more liberal decades ago.

Double standards may be involved there. Of course, to be fair, in many cases people who have openly admitted posing nude, or were famous for doing so, had no career problems later. It's usually when something is suddenly revealed that the situation gets ugly.

Default Bruna Real

A 25-year-old Portuguese teacher might lose her job after posing naked for the PB magazine where she featured in eight pages of the May issue. Bruna Real taught music to elementary students in the city of Mirandela in Northeastern Portugal.
The curiosity of students, teachers and the local population was inevitable and the magazine sold out the first day it was issued. Although her neighbours describe her as a "woman who just likes to show off", the school that employs her refuses to accept the young teacher's extracurricular activities and has already announced the intention of dismissing her by the end of this school year.
The teacher's attitude was considered incorrect, thus, according to the school principal Jose Pires Garcia, "action must be taken quickly. Featuring naked in a magazine is not compatible with the function of an educator," he said, reminding that "keeping her in the institution would be harmful for the school community."
Since the young woman is currently teaching extracurricular activities, her contract is in charge of the city; therefore it's up to the city hall of Mirandela to decide about her permanence in the school, having it already convened a meeting to discuss the concerns of various families.[/b]

Shortly after this announcement, the Portuguese teacher from Mirandela was in fact dismissed from classes and transfered to administrative work after posing for PB.

Is this the incident?

Carmen Kontur-Gronquist - She was fired as the Mayor of Arlington, Oregon after photos of her posing in lingerie on a fire truck were discovered on her MySpace page. Carmen said the pictures were taken 3 years ago. The small town of 500 people voted 142 to 139 to recall her as Mayor.
Constituents of Carmen Kontur-Gronquist were outraged complaining that her sex appeal made her unfit for office.

I agree that a certain level of professional is needed for public office, but she was recalled for those first three pics????? and I can't even tell that is a fire truck.

P.S. Way off topic but women with hyphenated last names are always trouble. Indicates they are feminists who think it is an insult to change their last name. Don't date and stay far away from... From Tom Leykis who's advice should always be taken with a grain of salt.

Default Pamela Sue Martin

American actress best known to television audiences for playing the title role in The Nancy Drew Mysteries and as vixenish Fallon Carrington on the popular 1980's prime time soap Dynasty.

Fired from her role as Nancy Drew after posing nude for PB magazine.
Currently residing in Idaho after having left Hollywood behind.
Producers of Dallas tried to get her to replace Victoria Principal as Pamela Ewing but she declined the role.

She was in a trench coat and holding a detective magnifying glass. She had red-brown hair. Her pose on the cover was seductive, a curve of the breast and a flash of thigh. She was on the cover of Playboy. She was seen by the world. Then she disappeared.
I knew her as Nancy Drew from the Nancy Drew and Hardy Boys Mysteries back when I was a teenager. But, I cannot think of her name now. She was trying to shake her "good girl" image and thus posed in Playboy.

I have recently learned her name, Pamela Sue Martin, and that she went on to more acting roles. She played Fallon Carrington Colby on the his show "Dynasty" and has stayed in the business. And like most actors, jobs come and go.
It was a bad move for her. In that time period, to move from a "child" fan base to an adult fan base by posing for Playboy was considered by the public as scandalous as all the hype that clogs our media today. If Pamela established her acting with a more mature audience first, I feel that there might have been a different response.
As with any celebrity, and with any project (writing, speaking, television...), one must consider the audience. It is a very powerful group. And if you look at the current debate with American Idol's credibility, or any reality show that uses audience participation, the audience is powerful and fickle. And, of course, the audience can also be very unpredictable.
In the case of Nancy Drew actress, the audience did not like her maneuver. Posing for Playboy hurt her career because the her current audience did not want that. She was a bigger hit as Nancy than as Fallon. It was not Playboy's fault. Playboy has helped launch careers and rejuvenate careers. Look (no pun intended) at the celebrities that have been in Playboy and it was a successful tool. From my observation (yes, I have read/looked at a few), most stars that are successful with posing are those who were already celebrities in the audience base. The transition from child/teen celebrity status to an adult celebrity is a dangerous move.
Most child stars and teen celebrities should think twice before posing. It was a risky move that did not work for that well for Pamela.

Interesting stuff. And you've represented it fairly. Still, there are a few points to address here.

...she did better than most actresses who started back in the 70s. Hell, she did better than her replacement on Nancy Drew, who only did four episodes before the show was cancelled. If you want to take it to extremes, compare her to Shaun Cassidy, who had only nine acting roles after the show went off the air (people now think of him as a successful TV producer, but they tend to forget that for about a decade he disappeared, before trying the career change).

It was the 70s. Networks were uptight. It was ABC that didn't approve of Martin doing Playboy. The audience didn't care nearly as much. In fact, most viewers were pissed off by Martin being fired, which is why her replacement only lasted four episodes.

As for ABC, they got over their "righteous indignation" (I put it in quotes, since network execs, who eat children for breakfast, are incapable of any true righteousness) pretty quickly. When Aaron Spelling wanted Pamela Sue Martin for Dynasty, they didn't fight his decision. And while some might feel that Nancy Drew was a higher-profile role (after all, she was the star), Dynasty was pretty much THE bitchy night-time soap in the 80s, second only to Dallas (which it was created to cash in on, successfully). Of course, eventually Martin was replaced, by Emma Samms, as Fallon, but that was just one of the bizarre plot twists of the declining writing, combined with getting rid of an actress who had demanded more money (much like the "Muldavian Wedding Massacre", when all the actors got shot, and the ones who negotiated acceptable contracts for the next season got to "miraculously survive").

The only other thing worth mentioning is that all of the nude photos you put up kind of misrepresented the situation. Only one of them was from the Playboy shoot (the see-through one). In general the pictorial she did was fairly tame (though, make no mistake, she DID show skin in it). All of the ones I've left up in my reply were taken before she was cast as Nancy Drew. I have no doubt that ABC knew about them (I believe some of them were used in her portfolio). It wasn't so much that the network didn't approve of a woman who had posed nude playing Nancy Drew. I'm sure most of their anger was her wearing the trench coat, holding the magnifying glass, etc. on the cover of Playboy. Playboy was capitalizing on the character's image to promote the magazine, and that set the network off.

I respectfully submit to you that I did not misrepresent; I did put up more photos and broke it down between the PB shoot and other nudity. I can see from your post that you attempted to do the same. I do not question the moderators decision not to show those photos since it is a privileged and not a right to post on this forum and they have given me a lot of leeway in making mistakes.
As for PSM, from the sources I read, and from her scant filmography, her career did take a turn for the worse after the PB shoot and indeed she was fired from Nancy Drew is a direct correlation to her posing. I agree that she did better than most actresses in finding work---doing 86 episodes of a popular TV series such as Dynasty is impressive, but would you agree that she would have wanted to do more that 4 made for TV movies and a few guest star roles in between her Dynasty career?

That's one of the biggest reasons people do get fired or thrown out of school for posing nude. They exploit what they do for a living or where they go to school and that can get some wicked backlash because, in essence, the suggestion is that their bosses or their higher ups somehow approved or condoned the actions.

As a boss or a higher ranking official, that often cannot be tolerated if they want to maintain any type of healthy workplace environment. That is especially true of those that have to have respect in their line of work (ie military officers, police officers, teachers.) Whether we want to admit it or not, it's hard for a person to respect you if they have seen you completely nude in a lustful manner in a magazine devoted to sex and sexuality for a paycheck.
Today is my respond to posts day. I agree that she had no formal sanctions, discipline etc. My case is that her spot on the cheerleading team and her enrollment at MSU both changed as a direct result of her nudity. Would she still be cheerleading and attending the same school if she never posed nude?
She was not fired from the cheerleading team but she states "Me and my coaches decided that it was either Mississippi State cheerleading or my PB career. Pretty much the decision was made for me that I was no longer going to be cheering for them," she told a Memphis radio show Memphisport Live earlier this week. Well maybe she was fired from the cheerleading team.
