Well shut my mouth and call me Q Branch! Who would have thought it that the new James Bond tune as mentioned above, is heading to Number One in the chart. This will set a record as the ONLY Bond tune to make it to that coveted spot - the only other songs to reach high spots No2 were Adele-Skyfall and before that Duran Duran-A View To A Kill.

Well once again shut my mouth and call me a cab - HE DID IT!! The first James Bond song to make it to the No1 spot in the UK Charts(which of course now includes downloads) Sam Smith has made history with his song 'Writing's On The Wall'. The track acheived combined chart sales and streams of 70,000 copies - 13,000 ahead of his closest competitor, Justin Bieber.

I could have said something derogatory about Bieber but I'll leave that to people that REALLY can't stand him. It is quite something for Sam Smith to achieve and I can't wait to see how it stands up with the opening titles to the new film.

Interesting programme last night (BBC2) Paul Hollywood meets Aston Martin, which saw the British Bake Off judge look into the history of the Aston Martin, and meet people involved with the making of the iconic James Bond cars. He also managed to race in Le Mans(having got his official licence) in the Aston Martin race but it was cut short due to a crash. He also got to drive the original Aston Martin, a DBR1 racing car once driven by Sir Sterling Moss and drove a DB5 but not the original because apparently it was stolen and no one knows what happened to it(according to Michael G Wilson producer of Bond films) He also got to be driven in one of the new Astons (DBX) used in the forthcoming film 'Spectre' but none are available for purchase as only 10 were built but directly for the film. They could however provide the blueprint for future cars.

It was also interesting where the name came from -Aston Hill where they raced and Lionel Martin who along with his associate Mr Bamford came up with the racing car. The DB bit came from David Brown who bought Aston-Martin in the 60s. Incidentally Paul Hollywood owns a second-hand Volante.

I read something online that Daniel Craig is liable to thump people who take photos of him or his wife without his permission - he is quite willing to pose for selfies at red carpet things but take a piccie without his permission in a restaurant or other place then gawd help ya!

Nikki van der Zyl, who did the voices of six James Bond girls is on The One Show now, catch later on Iplayer if you can get that where you are, along with Andrew Scott in the new Spectre.

And incidentally Rupert Penry-Jones will be reading the new James Bond novel for A Book At Bedtime all next week on BBC Radio 4 at 10.30pm - Trigger Mortis. Again you can catch up via the BBC Iplayer radio or download it's app to your machine/iPad etc.

Christopher Wood screenwriter for The Spy Who Loved Me and Moonraker has recently passed away. He also wrote novelisations of those 2 movies.

RE - Spectre Theme hitting No 1....

Chart success is no sign of something being great; fans are so fickle these days they'll by any old shit by this years' favourite whim; and then next year he could write a song ten times as good and not even chart; if the fans have moved onto the next whim in turn...!

Hence, Sam Smith might have broken a losing streak for Bond Themes, but only time will tell if it was any good or not. My money is still on the best one having been either "A View to a Kill" or "Nobody Does It Better". Others come close, but those for me are tops.

Another 'heads up' for you. The radio station Classic FM has a load of Bond tunes and all other things Bond on Saturday at 5pm in Saturday Night at the Movies. The channel can be found on SKY channel 0106 satellite OR you can probably listen via the website www.classicfm.com but if it is anything like the last time they did this, it should be well worth a listen.

And this Friday Daniel Craig, Naomie Harris, Christophe Waltz and Sam Smith will be on The Graham Norton Show with the first live performance of Writing's On The Wall. 10.35pm on BBC1 (repeated 11.30pm Monday)

Thumbs down Spectre song

After Goldeneye ( the last song with 007 touch, for me ) the songs have become deplorable. Of course, these songs are nice, but with a sad trend worthy of a funeral. Gray, colorless. Beautiful songs, but not worthy of James Bond.
Where are the Thunderball, Goldfinger, Live and Let Die, or You only live twice?
These opening songs promised us a great show, mystery, travel, and also girls and fun.
But this is only my opinion and you do not have to think like me.
