Default Congratulations Are In Order

Let me be one of the first to congratulate the board of Cadbury's for their fine sense of business acumen by selling a 200 year old company to Kraft.
As an Australian I will be looking forward one day to having my chocolate come from China instead of Tasmania.

Another company has left British hands with virtually no chance of it ever returning.
I also have another issue in that I am very much anti-globalisation. OK Cadbury was probably a global enterprise, but now it is part of an even bigger global enterprise.

On a similar vein, someone once told me that in Switzerland, companies are not allowed to be sold to people or organisations outside Switzerland; even if the comany was a foreign company bought by a Swiss. In effect, once a company becomes Swiss, it is forever Swiss. Can anyone confirm or refute this?

The Brezhnev doctrine, ''a victory of socialism is irreversible'' was translated by Henry Kissinger as ''What's ours is ours. What's yours is up for grabs.'' Curious to see this Cold War thinking re-invented by Switzerland to suit their own peculiar take on capitalism. Sad that Cadburys has been swallowed up, but at least it wasn't Nestle who bagged them: Nestle are a real world working facsimile of Omni-Consumer Products from the Robocop films.

Why don't we just have one company in the world which makes and provides all goods and services. Cos that's the way it seems to be heading.
Thank goodness there is the monopolies commission.
What about BAA? Does anyone really choose their flights on who runs the airport?

Kraft, owned by Philip Morris. I was with the company the year they bought them. $18 billion. Insane amount of money PM makes. A was only made aware recently that the company changed its name to Altria. Corporate imaging

Don't be so harsh on Nestle, Toblerone is my favourite chocolate.

Oh hold on, Kraft own Toblerone.

Sad, but inevitable. I wish I could say that we should be fighting tooth and nail for what is one the very few remaining traditional British companies, but we'd be pissing into the wind. It could be worse, though - it could have been Hershey's whose own products taste of a combination of dog poo and rancid rat vomit.
