At The Drive In. 6.
Soundtracks passion. Special US 70's.
* Lalo Schifrin, "Bullitt", 1969. Main Theme Shifting Gears Cantata For Combo Hotel Daniels Cult thriller by Peter Yates (1968). "Everything on the album is visually evocative the way good soundtrack music should be, yet the individual cuts are tight and melodic enough to hold up to repeated listens. The end result is a soundtrack that succeeds both as a film score and a stand-alone album. This unique combination makes Bullitt one of the finest achievements in the Lalo Schifrin catalog and one of the best action film scores ever written". * Johnny Cash, "I Walk the Line", 1970. Flesh And Blood Face Of Despair Directed by John Frankenheimer, starring Gregory Peck & Tuesday Weld, the film is the story of Sheriff Henry Tawes (Peck) who develops a relationship with nymphet town girl Alma McCain (Weld). The soundtrack by Johnny Cash features his 1956 hit song of the same name and lot of other pure masterpieces. * Various artists, "The Exorcist", 1973. Jack Nitzsche -Iraq Mike Oldfield -Georgetown / Tubular Bells Anton Webern -Five Pieces For Orchestra, Op.10 Krzysztof Penderecki -Polymorphia Krzysztof Penderecki -String Quartet (1960) Harry Bee -Windharp George Crumb -Night Of The Electric Insects Krzysztof Penderecki -Kanon For Orchestra And Tape Mike Oldfield -Tubular Bells Hans Werner Henze -Fantasia For Strings "Lalo Schifrin, again, was first hired as composer but his score was rejected by director William Friedkin. Schifrin had written six minutes of music for the initial film trailer but audiences were reportedly too scared by its combination of sights and sounds. Warner Bros. executives told Friedkin to instruct Schifrin to tone it down with softer music, but Friedkin did not relay the message. In the soundtrack liner notes for his 1977 film, Sorcerer, Friedkin said had he heard the music of Tangerine Dream earlier, he would have had them score The Exorcist. Instead, he used modern classical compositions, including portions of the 1971 Cello Concerto by Polish composer Krzysztof Penderecki, Five Pieces for Orchestra by Austrian composer Anton Webern as well as some original music by Jack Nitzsche. The original soundtrack LP has only been released once on CD, as an expensive and rare Japanese import. It is noteworthy for being the only soundtrack to include the main theme Tubular Bells by Mike Oldfield, which became very popular after the film's release, and the movement Night of the Electric Insects from George Crumb's string quartet Black Angels". * Pino Donaggio, "Carrie", 1976. Opening Titles Theme Bucket Of Blood School In Flames Italian composer Pino Donaggio works for long with Brian De Palma and scored most of his movies. Impossible to count how many soundtracks he composed, included recent Mad Men TV series or classical Dario Argento Giallo films. Underrated. * Marvin Gaye, "Trouble Man", 1972. Trouble Man Poor Abbey Walsh "T" Stands For Trouble Don't Mess With Mister "T" There Goes Mister "T" Blaxploitation classic movie, by Ivan Dixon, less famous for its own qualities than for the amazing music by Marvin Gaye : pure dense & melancholic funky-blues. * Lalo Schifrin, "Mannix", 1968. Mannix main theme (complete version) The Shadow Turn Every Stone Let's end with Schifrin tireless genius : close ur eyes, listen the music and u will be brought 45 years back in front an old TV : fun, cool jazz and testosterone.

My Tin Apples - The Crow's Lullaby
Latest fave album - a progressive metal album with a Tool-Killing Joke-Enter Shakiri-style, all ramped up with big Dream Theater style keyboards. Maybe a bit poppy for me, but rescued by some great riffing & huge harmonised choruses.
Lead single "I have seen a lie" is a stormer, great driving music. I have seen a lie: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yNNpVkaEwi8 Alice: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cuBLrVgC40Y Enjoy

Joseph Haydn: Symphony no.102 in B flat major
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8ja0MKm6YFM
The Symphony No. 102 in B flat major, Hoboken I/102, is the tenth of the twelve so-called London Symphonies written by Joseph Haydn. Background It was completed in 1794. It is now believed by many scholars to be the symphony at the premiere of which a chandelier fell from the ceiling of the concert hall in which it was performed. Fortunately, the audience escaped unharmed, supposedly because they had rushed the stage. It was long believed that this "Miracle" event took place at the premiere of his Symphony No. 96. Movements The work is in standard four-movement form and scored for two flutes, two oboes, two bassoons, two horns, two trumpets, timpani and strings. 1. Largo—Vivace 2. Adagio in F major 3. Menuetto. Allegro 4. Finale. Presto The second movement is an orchestration of the second movement of the F-sharp minor piano trio, Hob. XV/26 also transcribed from F sharp major to F major. The repeats in the trio are written out in the symphony allowing for changes in the orchestration upon the second hearing. Also, the symphony features the cellos playing a rolling triplet accompaniment whereas in the trio, the cello simply doubles the bass. (Thanks to HaydnHouse04Mar1887 for the upload and the notes) |
