I had similar problems. I slept until very late. Too many worries and thoughts that went through my head. The sleep was light, nightmarish and a noisy fly on the wall was enough to awaken me. The next day was crappy. I felt sick even when standing up. Mistakes at work and in the private area happens very fast and this in turn reinforces the fears of the future. -> Goto "I slept until very late."

You need something to calm down. I'll prescribe this medication.

Once a day half an hour before bedtime. I wish you a pleasant night's sleep.

very badly, years ago I slept through a fire alarm in a London hotel - now i couldn't sleep through a mouse farting on the other side of the field out the back. I would say on average i might get 5 to 6 hours if i'm lucky but it will involve tossing and turning, a couple of hours awake etc.

Thanks, longshaw!

I hate you.

Yeah, the older I get, the harder it is to sleep. When I drink, I can sleep pretty good, but then after a couple of nights drinking, and I don't drink, I don't sleep. By the next few nights I start to sleep a little, but it's shitty sleep, with a lot of bad dreams, and such. When I lived in California, the doctor gave me Ambien, which helps..but I try not to take it too much, as I'll get addicted to it. But I still depend on it a couple of nights a week.

So, anyway, now that I'm in Florida, I went to a new doctor, where I got a woman, a nurse practitioner. I asked her to refill all my prescriptions, but she wouldn't refill my Ambien.

"We don't like prescribing drugs like that for sleep. We usually encourage people to meditate..or drink warm milk".

Drink warm milk? Meditate? What am I..back in California? I would expect that back in the land of fruit and nuts...but not in retirementland.

"Meditate"?, I asked.."yeah..I meditate while I'm lying there for hours awake...that's the problem! I don't wanna meditate..I wanna sleep! I was hoping you would give me the shit they gave Michael Jackson!"

Meditate on my ass! Here's your warm milk!

Checkout some plants. Apparently Hop plants can help and Hop pickers have been known to fall asleep while harvesting. Lavender is another although I havent tried it. If I have a problem I meditate, it helps to clear up any stress and anxiety. I'm a light sleeper, I also suffered with tinitus (ringing in the ears) for some time. Basically I couldn't switch off or filter out sounds that would kick in my fight or flight reflexes. I handle it better now and meditation helped. Although washing machines, equipment or systems timed to start at 3.00am will wake me up. Cutting out the booze and keeping your feet warm also seems to help.

I've tried zopiclone which works but I found it very addictive and would only use it for a few days continual use.

Yeah had that a few times. And zopidem. Sleepers are not a good way to address the issue. I remember my shrink changed my anti depression meds. I swear on my life I never slept for 5 days straight. I was in tears and losing my mind. I just got a taxi to my Drs surgery and told them I want to see a Dr now! She reduced the meds and gave me sleepers to kill an elephant. I slept the weekend through.

I'm an alcoholic, who is in recovery. That's the tech term but booze made me sleep for years. When you quit, your body is not very happy about it and sleep does become hard. But i'm over the booze now. If I get 4 hours sleep at night i'm OK. I waken a lot then drift off into the land of nod again.

Forget warm milk or meditation. Take a book and read while lying.... you'll be in coma in 5 minutes.

I sleep very badly. I have very strong dreams all the time which cause me to wake up, sometimes in a panic. A few nights ago i dreamt that y wife had given birth to our first baby and there was something wrong with it and could die. I woke up in a huge panic actually believing for a moment that it was true. I am single, never married and no kids so where the feck that dream came from i have no idea. It's like that just about every night sometimes the dreams are good and sometimes total nightmares but always wake me up.
I haven't had an uninterrupted nights sleep for years. I never seem to relax my brain is busy all the time and i wake up feeling tired. The doctors wouldn't give me any drugs because of other medication i am on.
