Today's version of the Daily St*r had a banner headline on the cover along the lines of 'Welcome to all readers of the Sunday Sport', so I guess it's pretty official.

Some famous pa*e three girls were first featured in the Sport before appearing in other papers, Shanine Linton and Tracey Coleman to name but two.

Whatever happened to the Sunday Sport Roadshow? Is it continuing in another guiuse?

It's a good thing the St*r is still here to help keep down the standards of British journalism.

Default Daily Sport is no more!

I must confess I stopped reading it properly 15 years ago. I looked at it occasionally since then and found it has much of the "sameness" of other papers like The Star. It's a pity, since during the early 90s it seemed to settle into a character of its own and could have been a decent paper.

They tried going upmarket and that failed and then reverted back to what they knew but by that time the damage had been done. When it first launched in 1986 as a Sunday paper I went straight out to get it, because from the advert launching it, it was going to feature loads of page 3 girls which we all loved and probably more frequently than the other tabloids. However what annoyed me was the amount of telephone sex adverts and very little sport and some of the stories were faintly ludicrous.

Over the years the format has changed, the Daily Sport was brought in, then revamped several times and less page 3 girls and more bizarre ones added-in bizarre I mean large, silicon-enhanced, pierced & tattooed monstrosities, none of the glamour associated with page 3. I do find it an irony that they are in jeopardy when they used to use phrases like "the fading Sun" and "the sinking Star" to say those papers would be eclipsed by them-it's now a case of who's got the last laugh now?

Pretty unique for a paper to be called 'Sport' with no actual sports whatsoever in it.

Not that the average skin consumer would complain or anything - still funny though.

The Sport has been in financial trouble since David Sullivan sold the paper to someone else. In fact, he had to step in at one point with a rescue package because the Sport was losing so much money. Tony Livesey was probably the best editor they had, but there's only so much tit and ass you can use to fill a "newspaper". There WAS a sports section that actually wasn't too bad, although it was more of a football section rather than anything else.

It went to a Sport Roadshow in the mid 90s. All the top 90s girls where there But it was tame. Just table top dancing in front of a load of pissed blokes. Yes they took their knickers off for a short while. I was only a few feet from Shanine Linton's pussy I think it was the only time the Roadshow came to Belfast, but I could be wrong.

The Daily Sport did manage to provide me with one happy memory: setting fire to a copy in the pub many years ago...
