I find it funny that they said Playboy was NC-17. I was never more than R rated.

I think you would have to fire everyone involved with Playboy at the moment. Then revitalize the Mansion as the center of the Playboy world. Maybe appoint Charlie Sheen as chief party animal, and let the rumpus begin. All new potential executive hires must attend at least one all-night party at the Mansion, and be photographed in their underwear with a hot babe on their lap. Weeds out the repressive accountant types.
Now what do we do with Hef? He has to stay, but he's a bit of an embarrassment as his balls have obviously dried up and he's probably a bit senile. Maybe call him master of ceremonies and have him circulate and reminisce about the old days. Beyond that, the obvious. Hire photographers who know what they're doing, get some decent PB chicks back with the lovely teardrop breasts instead of the bulging implants, tastefully trimmed bushes a must, no complete shaving except in certain shoots (some water shoots are sexier with a shaved model), etc. I think we could do with some fresher sporty looking girls who look REALLY good. Once upon a time Playboy was surpassingly good at this. |

I think that part of what's missing is the promotion. Part of the Playmate contract involved traveling the country and doing meet and greets. Most of the girls were very nice people, as well as very sexy women, and it was a pleasure getting to talk to them at the photo ops, etc. Also, back in the day PB had a powerful reputation as cutting edge in entertainment and culture. "Playboy After Dark" was more important than a bunch of cheesy films and photoshoots on the Playboy Channel. They cheapened their own product and brand.

Gee, I love looking at ads. They'll get more ad revenue - AT FIRST - but how many issues are going to sell per month long term? THAT is the issue. |

I've not seen a copy of Playboy for around 20 years, so have no idea if it's changed much since then. I don't know if there's still a market for magazines like this, but I suspect the kind of past circulation figures they enjoyed have become pretty much unattainable, regardless of what you now put in it. Sales of magazines and newspapers continue to fall and in the case of Playboy, I'd probably call it a day as this publication belongs to the 60s and 70s.

I think the bottom line is that magazines for men are dying. I don't mean just pictures of girls magazines; magazines in general. In a discussion a while ago I looked at the top selling magazines in Britain and the top 20 were all for women with one exception near the bottom, Mens' Health, which seems to be aimed at gays anyway.
I haven't bought a magazine for longer than I can remember, and I think that's true of more and more men. Other than a few niches like astronomy or caged bird rearing or whatever, the magazine shelves these days are for women; gossip, soap opera magazines, etc. It's a pity when a great brand dies, but I think that girlie magazines have, like the bowler hat, gone from a routine purchase for numerous men to a thing of the past. The Lad Mag was the last gasp of the format. Men are on the internet now. |

If someone's going to save it, it better be soon. I got the new issue and it sucks! It's boring, pretentious, pseudo artistic crap. It's just like Maxim now. I'm letting my subscription run out. Goodbye Playboy, it was nice knowing you. At least I've got my collection of vintage 50s-60s-70s issues to remind me of better days.
