How would you save Playboy?
NOTE: If you feel " saving Playboy is pointless", you're not alone. This is just a thread from a PB fan, for other PB fans. The question is "If you were in charge, what would you be doing to save the business?" not, " Can it be saved?"
Thanks, xXx There have been numerous newspaper reports about Playboy going bankrupt. People have been arguing for the last 15 years about the fall in the quality of Playmates. So... this has got me thinking: If you owned Playboy, what changes would you make to save the company? What would you bring back... what would you get rid of... what would you keep... or would you bring in something new? Here are a few of the things I would do if I owned Playboy: 1. Only allow natural Playmates, with naturally amazing bodies that you don't find on any old internet porn site. You can go anywhere on the web to find pictures of girls with fake tits. You can't go anywhere to find another Janet Lupo, Cynthia Myers, Karen Price, Patricia Farinelli, or Kerri Kendall, can you? Playboy should be selling the public " The most beautiful women in the world, naked" not, " Admire the work of this LA surgeon!" 2. Stop with the plastic looking photography effects. It makes the PM's look unreal. And if they don't look like real women, they're not as sexy. 3. Bring back personal pictures in the Playmate spreads. Again, it makes the girls seem more accessible and real. As far as I'm aware, they don't have personal pictures anymore, and that's a real shame 4. Use more feminine settings again. In the 80s they used bedrooms full of pink and white and silk, beautiful gardens, dance studio's, etc, and it was all very gentle and feminine. Now most of the settings are at rock clubs or on bar tables, etc. There needs to be more feminine mystique again. 5. Give a little more variety. A big problem for PB is that most of the people my age just think Playmates are bleach blonde chicks with fake boobs and no pubs, and that's not really a popular look with everyone! PB should be making an effort to get away from this damaging stereotype by bringing in a greater variety of ethnicities, hair colors, body shapes, pubic hair styles, types of facial beauty ( cute, beautiful, sexy, elegent, etc.), and heights. Anyway, those are just some idea's. My idea's are mostly about the Playmates and centrefolds. I hope other people will have some interesting thoughts on the subject too! xxxxXxxxXxxxx

How would you save Playboy
It's a great topic. I agree with all of your points. I wonder sometimes though now that I'm older if women styles have changed so much that we can never get back the good old days of playboy. After all women dress differently, have different hairstyles, etc.. Regardless of how times change though, Playboy should always be about that girl in your neighborhood who you could only dream about.

I would go with day and night sets. What the girl looks like at work or in college followed by what she looks like during her hobbies, rock climbing, saving the whales etc and finally how she scrubs up to go out at night from towel on hair right through to slinky dress, stockings high heels and lingerie. ............oh and more flap shots |

^^ Lol! I think a lot of people do think the bleach blonde hyperreal look is bad.
I think in the 90s it was new so it was a novelty. Most of the guys I know now just think it's a " hood rat" look, and they don't like it. Totally agree with the night shots idea That would be a cool new thing! xx

Playboy has been so deaf to viewers about its over-the-top editing, that its the main reason for its downfall IMO. Someone needs to slap the senior editor in the face and make him/her wake up and listen/read what people have complained about for years or at least quit being so stubborn about their notoriously poor editing habits.
They need more photos of the girls they feature. Too often there are too few photos to enjoy. Go pink(er)! "Even good girls have sex" was one of Hefs favorite sayings if I remember correct. That means they must have vagina's too right! Then dont be afraid to show'em! They can still remain classy without going "In-The-Crack" gyno crazy. I hate to say it since I'm not a big celeb fan but, they could help pay the bills. PB should work harder at attracting more celebs into the mag. I'm sure they'll be more expensive but the returns will be greater. Just a couple big headliners a year could pay off really well. |

I vae to agree with all of Ellie's comments and also agree with Glcson that going pinker and more celebs would help. There just have not been nearly enough natural looking girls-lucky to have one a year- in the magazine and all of its offshoots.

Yes to more natural women and less surgically modified versions of Hef's wet dreams.
More "Women of" pictorials as they sometimes uncover (pun intended) some women who manage to eclipse that issue's centrefold. The various Cyber club websites offer a great deal more so maybe they should have an inhouse conference. And it will NEVER happen but a Gillian Anderson pictorial would see me buying a few copies, for posterity of course. |
