Am I the only one who liked and loved this movie?

Last Action Hero (1993)

https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0107362/

The critics killed it.

The audiences crucified it.

It flopped at the box office.

Plus it's theatrical release date was chosen very pooly: a week after Jurassic Park came out.

It had no chance at all!

I loved it!!

I must have seen it 3 times in the theaters and a dozen times on home video.

You're not alone Wildtig, I love it too, i like the self-parody in it. Not sure why so many people disliked it.

Glad I am not alone anymore.

Bridgette Wilson was hot too at the time being only 20 years old.

Too bad her movie career didn't go anywhere.

So who is this Vanessa Kirby from the new Mission Impossible film?

The only films in her filmography that I've seen are Jupiter Ascending and Everest. Both films were so unmemorable, I don't remember her in either one.

Looking at her photos, I am getting evil freaky nympho vibes from her.

Great soundtrack too, if you're in to rock music.

Default Quarantine (2008)

Quote:
On the evening of March 11, 2008, news reporter and cameraman, Angela Vidal and Scott Percival, are assigned to follow firefighters Jake and Fletcher during their nightshift. They are given a department tour, but an emergency call dispatches them. Arriving, screams from a self-barricaded apartment block room were heard by the landlord and residents. The firemen, police officers, and crew enter; they are attacked by an aggressive elderly woman. Fletcher also mysteriously falls to the base floor, incapacitated. The old woman bites a policeman and is killed. As the residents are ordered downstairs for their own safety, the team finds a second woman in a similar condition and bring her downstairs with others.
Those wounded by the women become sick and delirious. Angela interviews a sick little girl who states that her dog is at the vet because he was sick too. The authorities and CDC suddenly quarantine the building, allowing none to leave. A resident veterinarian recognizes the symptoms as similar to those of rabies. CDC officers wearing hazmat suits enter the building and begin working on the two victims on the ground floor, but chaos ensues as the victims attack.
Ever wondered what it would look like to bludgeon a woman to death using a recording video camera?
This saves you the trouble... and the jail term.

Rotten Tomatoes rates it at 5.7/10 which may be a bit miserly. I'm only part way through and feel it deserves more than that (maybe a 7?)
I've seen similar low budget 'shakey cam' horror that are far worse. It's a remake of the Spanish film 'REC.'.
The partial quote above is from Wikipedia, which gives the whole story away. A huge 'spoiler alert'.

It also postulates an interesting concept, that the true root of supernatural evil is not the Devil [as such] but rather the dark side of human nature. The scene in which the alien spacecraft opens up and the dead creatures inside it rapidly decompose in contact with earths atmosphere after being hermetically sealed inside their wrecked machine for millions of years remains strikingly creepy and rather horrifying, nearly 50 years after it was filmed. Also still rather creepy and horrible is the idea of the human race having been genetically altered by not very admirable locust-like Martian aliens who wanted to preserve some remants of their advanced but doomed civilisation, and mainly succeeded in preserving the least desireable side of their own characters.

Like so many British films in the decades after WW2 the film has a very pompous script in which you never see characters relaxing, being human, laughing or expressing their lighter sides. Everyone seems to be frightfully self-important. It is a shame they couldn't have roped in someone like George Sanders to play Professor Quatermass and to bring in the element of self awareness and dark irony which made his performance opposite Barbara Shelley so good in Village of the Damned, filmed seven years earlier. This film needed something like that to counterpoint the sheer pompousness of most of the characters; a valid pompousness in the case of the military officers, civil servants and politicians who are the real villains of the piece and who are completely in denial about the danger posed by the alien spacecraft, snatching at preposterous alternative explanations rather than accepting it is extra-terrestrial in origin. They are basically British arseholes Type One. It would help the film if Professor Quatermass was witty and had a sense of humour with which to counter-attack the stupidity of the officials with whom he is forced to negotiate.

Barbara Shelley, who was London-based and confined to British based films such as Village of the Damned and the Hammer productions, in which she earned the sobriquet of being the British Queen of Scream, still looks rather tidy here at the age of 35 and acts with the seemingly effortless polish of an experienced trouper. She for me is the pick of the cast; though the script was not well written in terms of characters and did not give the actors playing the face of officialdom anything to work with. Andrew Keir plays Professor Quatermass as an extremely earnest and driven man; but shows nothing of the man's more human characteristics. People who are permanently living in Defcon One are very tiresome to others and this film needs a more likeable hero and some humour in the mix.

Nevertheless it is quite a decent film and has some genuinely scary moments which have not lost their power in the years, because they play on ideas rather than oin mere special effects.
Sorry to have taken so long replying to this post scoundrel but I watched 'Quatermass And The Pit' on DVD only the other day having been impressed by it as a boy and I agree with everything you say here.

What I would add is that I would love to see a remake of this film, taking all the themes as seriously as this original does but adding a good script, good acting, good cinematography & SFX and good direction.

That the film is so memorable in this incarnation suggests it could be the basis of a genuinely great modern remake.

I loved it too, and I was surprised just how good an actor Arnie was. I think it failed because their was no target audience for it. People who like that sort of dumb action movies aren't going to go and see them sent up and people who might appreciate the parody probably weren't going to go and see a dumb action movie. That's my two cents worth.

Latest movie I watched was the 2015 Japanese film Our little Sister. The story of three sisters who grow up in their grandparents big old house after their parents desert them. When the film opens the sisters are 29, 22 and 19 and they reluctantly go to their estranged father's funeral where they meet their 14 year old half sister for the first time. As she has no one to care for her, they invite her to live with them. A gently paced, warm film about love and family. It's one of those feel good films that leaves you feeling sad when it's over. You'd like to spend more time in their lives.

Mission: Impossible - Fallout

Boy loses plutonium cores.Boy tries to get plutonium cores back but the C.I.A and the past are standing in his way.

PRAISE:Tom Cruise has a laser focused dedication to his films and does his own stunts at great physical risk to himself. He's the showman that wants to thrill the audience consistently but of course with his own pleasure of doing stunts blended in.

This is the first direct sequel to an MI film and with all of the double, triple crosses and double dealings in the film 100% of it shouldnt work and flow easy, but we will get to the lacking percentages later.
Fortunately for the most part there is a good flow to the film and Director Christopher McQuarrie
who also wrote the film maintains his course with small and large scale action sequences from a bathroom brawl to a beyond thrilling helicopter chase. This is all blended with a great cast which includes:Henry Cavill ,Ving Rhames,Simon Pegg ,Rebecca Ferguson ,Sean Harris,Michelle Monaghan
Angela Bassett and Alec Baldwin.
There was enough emotional weight to further pulled me into the plot.

PROBLEMS:I could see the film straining under the weight of the plot at times, and its 2 hour and 30 minute length could definitely be felt as some sequences in the film felt a bit drawn out.

This was a highly enjoyable action film, definitely a blue print for other MI and action films to come.

Scale of 1-10 an 8˝

Teen Titans Go! To the Movies

This will be short and to the point because i am not a fan of the television series Teen Titans Go!.
I liked it when it still had an edge but when they decided to make it kiddie and completely wacky i was done.
I come from the days of the hard hitting Teen Titans comic book with great writing from Marv Wolfman and artistry of George Pérez, but when you are raising a teenager some things you cant avoid in this life even though you really want to,so of course i watched a couple of episodes and i took my seat in a theatre to watch TTGTTM.

PRAISE: I laughed out loud several times, there are great sight gags,i liked how DC and WB allowed themselves to be the focus of many jokes.Brilliant pop culture references. This film works as a stand alone parody.

PROBLEMS:It is beyond repetitive, with a lot of silly nonsense and bodily waste humor. Some things that were supposed to be charming were absolutely annoying.Extremely predictable plot.

So with all that praise would i give the TV show Teen Titans Go! a chance.......NO !!

Scale of 1-10 a 6

This isn't

At all a run of the mill horror.
Not that I`m saying it`s as near perfect as the professional reviewers claim.

Concerns Joan (Emma Roberts) who feels drawn (For reasons we know not) to an out of the way (Aren't they always) all girls prep school. A place that should be empty of pupils right now. Yet where Rose and Kat find themselves stranded.

If you like slow build ups , and I mean really slow.
If you like the supernatural ,a mystery that`s keeps you guessing and a directer influenced by David Lynch.
Then you might enjoy the tale.

Must admit (As with Wilding) only checked this out as a major fan of James Remar
Who during his few scenes brings the hammer down heavy and true in the acting stakes.
Mind you every actor is flawless.

Which is why I give
