Here in my town we have a paved bicycle path. It starts here and proceeds northward for about 20 miles into 5-6 other towns. Along the way it crosses a number of side streets and back roads, and wherever it does there are Stop signs and the words "Stop Ahead" painted in yellow on the pavement for cyclists/pedestrians to observe and obey (but most do not) and motorists/vehicles have the right of way. Though I'm not required to stop whenever I approach any section of bike path I always slow down. (You probably already know where I'm going with this)
The other day while driving and approaching one such section of bike path I did my usual slow down, when all of a sudden some fool comes tearing ass right in front of me and never stopped. I jammed on my brakes and just barely missed hitting him! Well the fool starts yelling at me and flipping me off putting the blame on me! I exploded and jumped out of my car and started screaming at him ... Look you fucking asshole, do you see that metal sign mounted on that wooden post and those letters painted in yellow on the pavement that say Stop Ahead, well they are meant for you, I have the right of way you fucking dummy! I believe one reason why most cyclists do not stop at those crossings is because stopping would interrupt the speed and momentum they have built up and require starting over. That's too fucking bad!

They don't seem to realise that hitting a car would also interrupt their momentum There is a high proportion of wannabe future Darwin award nominations amongst today's cyclists

Cuzz you are so right!!!! I was in a parking lot with four way stops, waited my turn and start through, this bicyclist (won't dignify him with biker) never looked and came through on my right. I did not brake and revved my engine and he cleared my front end by maybe a foot. He got all hot and bothered and yelled something and I yelled something back plus my room mate flipped him off. We were laughing about the idiot when I look in the rear view (NO E not that) and hje is tryuing to chase us down on the open road. I took great joy from pissing him off that much. |

What annoys you the most ?
The fact Santeeeee pm`d me a snap of himself aged nine on Christmas (Circa 1869) morning with only a banana as a gift ,
Along with his Modding expenses claim for last month. Yes I signed off on them (Although some might ponder to wonder if eight thousand pounds should be claimed back from what he spent at "Big Jugs For Gents" strip club), as he knew I would Darn his dastardly cunning heartstrings tugging

To add to Cuzzy and Santee's rants against cyclists, I'll add my own. On the weekends Lady Hackenbush and I take long walks up the beach, which has a nice wide pedestrian sidewalk and a designated bike lane. Where do the cyclists ride? Why on the sidewalk of course.
A few weeks ago one of the cyclists came up behind us and rang his bell for us to get out of his way! I turned around pointed to the bike lane and yelled he should get in the bike lane. He responded by flipping us off and yelling that "Next time I"ll just run your ass over".

I can add to the list of cyclist complaints
I live in Australia in an area with very narrow footpaths (even two people passing is a squeeze and if any trees over hang from properties it's definitely single lane) Anyway we have wide bicycle lanes in our area due to cyclists complaining about other road users and as above a lot of cyclists choose to use the narrow footpaths and expect pedestrians to either go onto the grass nature strips or jump out of their way Even seen cyclist's abusing pedestrians waiting to cross the street standing in the bike lane while the cyclist is using the footpath anyway... |

Here we have cyclist lanes on some streets and the lanes are like barely 4-5 feet wide, on the edge of the car lane betwen the car lane and the sidewalk cement curb.
If I was a cyclist, I would not ride in those lane. You can still get sideswiped by a vehicle just passing you on the side especially many SUV and big pickup trucks here have side mirrors the size of a 24 inch monitor that sticks out 2 feet. But I agree, cyclist still have to abide by traffic laws. Stop at red lights, stop signs, yield before making a turn into traffic or against traffic, signaling with their hands (or if they have lights on their bicycles) to let traffic know they intend to turn, keep within their lanes, etc etc Experts even recommend that cyclists, when crossing intersections, would step off their bikes and walk their bikes through at crossings instead of riding through them. |
