Gibraltar has for many years been a major employer in the area with thousands of jobs available to the Spanish population. The Spanish governent has recently sent more border guards down to the border and they are deliberately making life difficult for both Spaniards who work in Gib and tourists.

Remind me what is Spanish unemployment running at.

Obviously there are many European politicians who think that the project is more important than the social and economic welfare of the people.

Concerning on those Offshore Banks and Gibraltar being not a member of the the EU free trade it's no wonder that Spain are sending more boarder guards (smuggling of money and goods ???).

Germany has the same kind of problems of smuggling money to Switzerland and Lichtenstein. There are also stronger controls at the boarders..

I drove from Switzerland into Liechtenstein and then into Germany in 2013 - the only time I saw a border guard was when we went back into Switzerland.

The secondary workplaces are in banks, what means offshore Banks. But with the European wide vigilance system this should being dried out soon or later.

I am doubtful that EU vigilance will have any effect on off-shore banking in a territory which is outside the EU. I do not expect off-shore banking to disappear in Switzerland or Lichtenstein, or even Monaco and Andorra and Sam Marino. Not to mention Luxembourg.

The best deterrant is likely to be bank crashes which the respective jurisdictions find too big to control, as happened in Cyprus. I doubt if the Cyprus banking sector will ever again be trusted after the "haircuts" which customers, many of them totally innocent and legitimate businesses, were made to suffer there.

If you drive from Lichtenstein to Germany, you have to drive a few km through Austria. It's the duty of Austria to control this boarder. They seldom do, and it's known. There are no borders controls between Austria and Germany. No fear, so the the German Federal Police patrol this further going highway and stopping cars and transporters on it (random) and in opposite direction. They catch several thousand drivers each year with several ten thousand each. .

They control the money flows via banks. If you can't explain/declare the bill, on which the money is paid for, you are having at least the "Jackass". Even on removal of higher sums of cash.
I'm aware, that system isn't perfect.

For real black money, never saw a bank one can only go with personal controls.

Luxembourg and the Netherlands are special cases.

Luxembourgh - The most spied upon state in Europe thanks to it's last leader -Herr Junker. And how many large firms did he give large and not strictly eurolegal tax breaks to to get them to do business in his country.

Luxembourg and the Netherlands are similar in that case. The income of companies from other European Countries is tax free to pipe it into other countries. The Netherlands banks alone have 45.000.000.000.000 EUR piped a few years ago into secondary states like the Caymans .

So one can see, the tax damage for the other European states is enormous.

It won't disappear, but off-shore banking is mainly about criminal activity, such as tax evasion & money-laundering. It's off-shore because they want to hide their identities

It took a long time, but the US has imposed its laws on Switzerland to a big extent. On Austria too. Whistleblowers spook the others. If the EU is onside, it can only help

I'd like to see a big hit on the Caymans, and other such crime centers. Do you think such hits are not planned already?

It doesn't need offshore Banking.

Don't forget Dalaware (USA) .
- About 900.000 citzens,
- about 600.000 mostly European companies are based there ("Letterbox companies" of course).

Volkswagen are having alone 24 sub companies there.
