Frank - Prisoners were not allowed the vote for many many years if not ever. Nothing to do with Cameron at all. He didn't take away prisoners voting rights as they didn't have any. FFS if you are going to pontificate please try and get your facts right.

Sorry misunderstood the issue- it was actually a Court of Human Rights thing; the UK upholding a law rather than changing it. I remember Cameron giving a pretty heavy speech about not complying. More of a sovereignty issue than anything.

I've a fairly good memory for politics but cannot remember everything.

I already did before asking. I couldn't find any mention of crime rates since WW2. The only article from a decent source was this NYT article saying the US murder rate is on a downward trend. It does pick the figures apart a little at the end but it looks like the best metric available.

Now mention of WW2 though. It's also just the murder rate, not crime in general. Also the US unemployment rate is low so can't really be used to argue against my original point.

That said, UK unemployment figures are low too but people are still going to food banks. Also most of the supermarkets and shops I go to are full of people in their mid twenties and they seem to work there full-time. Could talk about the lack of gainful, worth while employment opportunities but I get the impression that's too wishy-washy for here...

Where did I say or even hint that I understood the causes of crime ???

I simply believe violent offenders should be punished, for every toerag that goes out and commits violence you will find others who have had it much worse in life who do not resort to violence. It's too easy to blame the rest of society for the actions of a few slimeballs.
