XP was the gilded age of home PC use. Unfortunately, it is 32 bit and the PCs that were purchased back then had some crappy (P4) processors. Now XP is fading into the sunset. Windows 10 is not good for older generation PCs. The new ones that are sold with Win10 appear to be doing ok. The cure for this Windows malaise is simple really, don't connect it to networks. It can't do damage without the connection. I learned to use Linux for the telecom tasks and avoid connecting windows to networks unless i am cornered like a rat in a trap. If I must use windows, i am sticking to 8.1, It is a sweet OS once that tragic Metro UI tile desktop gets disabled. Win8.1 and Linux is the solution for me.

That's precisely the way corporations want to go, not so much with hardware, but certainly software. Why sell someone something for a one-off profit, when you can license to them, and keep milking them for money?

Update, my HP computer completely crapped itself after the update. I had to roll back my Windows, and thankfully all seems to be well. I do not have money for another computer right now I've now stopped the updates from installing themselves. Fuck this.

hello all
i just got windows 10 professional. it was previously owned so perhaps that is my problem.. i am trying to remove programs from the start menu. i googled and it appears i just right click the app icon and the options should appear to unpin from start. i do not get that option. also i try to uninstall some of these programs and i try to choose uninstall and the option is greyed out and i cant select it. also if the option IS there to uninstall i select uninstall an nothing happens. shouldn't i see it being removed? also, the start menu icon stays there after i supposedly uninstall so i am, not sure i really uninstalled anything/ ** the same happens if i go to this pc> uninstall or change program - the choice to uninstall is greyed out and i can't select it. thank you - all this garbage (games, phones, music, apps etc) i just want a clean sysyetm and clean looking sart button |

When you uninstall a Windows app you get no confirmation. Don't ask me why.

I think for some you can't, at least not in the alphabetic "all apps" menu. But in the "pinned tiles" you can. Didn't like those tiles at first but once i cleaned it out, sorted it the way i like (and added shortcuts to some of the folders i often use) i gotten to like it. edit: it seems possible after all if you use windows powershell (looks a bit complicated to me though) |

thanks.
no backup and i don't know how to reinstall. i'll have friend take a look at it. i have tried everything. i am really disliking windows 10 w all the bloat. i just tried to use office and it made me sign in and my word documents are created and saved on a cloud? rather than save as and save the file , it opens in a browser and i actually online when using word and the document is saved to the cloud? yuck..i really hate it. all these games an apps and buttons etc i read i can get a classic looking start button. i'll look into how i can do that but i wonder if i still won't be able to remove stuff fromit |

Dump the Windows start screen ... get Classic Shell.
It's no longer in active development, but I've used it with Windows 7, 8, 8.1, and numerous versions of Win 10 without a hitch. http://www.classicshell.net/
