Nixon 25th anniversary of his death, no coverage.
Nixon's library does a great job and pulls no punches on Watergate or anything, their social media is amazing.
Nixon Foundation https://t.co/7rN8VwaLpG Find it shocking almost no media wrote a word about it, all Trump, all day, every day. Nixon's brother Ed died recently too. Always hoped he made one final tape to be released at 25th anniversary of his death with the apologies he kept giving Martha Crowley where he kept saying he was so sorry, and did not want his actions making young people think entering politics was not a good career. Seemed very happy in his final years, secure with himself and clearly still very sharp during interviews and was doing books, and interviews to day of his stroke when he was going on Larry King. Nice guy when he was president or before? No, racist and insecure with so many deep seeded hate-reds as Alexander Butterfield said. Those tapes were awful and thousands died in a war he escalated for nothing. Charles Colson said he joked when Wallace was shot and Nixon by Nixon had no problem with Kennedy getting shot for lack of insurance for his security, and wanted security to get dirt on him. And he privatized healthcare which was a major blunder. I want the Brookings safe cleaned out, and implemented on a thievery basis, blow the safe and get the files. Then he was so insecure he ordered a break in to beat the dems in a race he has no chance of losing which took him down. Without those tapes he serves two full terms. In today's culture with the tapes he likely serves two terms anyway. Last edited by Baxter49; April 23rd, 2019 at 07:00 AM.. |

That's actually incorrect. I've read the White House transcripts...and it is a thrilling read...back in my university days for a term paper. Nixon quite clearly did not know about the breakins ahead of time. IIRC, it was Haldeman that informed him of the arrests. Nixon's reply was, paraphrasing, "Who would be stupid enough to break into a party's national headquarters, nothing important ever happens at one of those." |

Of course he would. He's very similar to any number of contemporary Democrats -- John Kerry, Seth Moulton and Pete Buttigieg come to mind, military service, Catholic (not sure about Moulton), middle of the road.
You've fallen victim to "false equivalence", the notion that "all parties are to blame". Any objective assessment of the parties positions shows that its not true. The Dems are right where they've always been. Even a genuine leftie like Bernie Sanders is not at all extreme compared with, say, Henry Wallace. Indeed, he's not extreme compared with Harry Truman or Walter Mondale. The Dems have stayed more or less where they've been since FDR, although they've lost their Southern racists . . . AOC isn't much different in her politics from New York Democratic Congressmen and women of the past-- think of a Senator Robert Wagner or a Representative Bella Abzug. Or Liz Holtzman, another woman rep from New York . . . not really any different. Today's Republicans-- unrecognizable to Dwight Eisenhower, Nixon, Ford. Even a Bob Dole who once was "conservative" looks, dangerous RINO to today's party. Last edited by deepsepia; April 24th, 2019 at 07:45 AM.. |
