I believe that the main issues being protested African Americans have much more to do with current conditions. There is plenty of evidence that systemic racism is alive and well in the United States.

There would likely be more sympathy for reparations if the country, most states, and many cities were not wrestling with severe financing problems with many on the verge of bankruptcy. Also, the fact that something in the order of 85% of black athletes are bankrupt within five years of their retirement makes many people fear throwing money down a rat hole.

Are the black run cities crime infested and bankrupt because industry abandoned them or did industry abandon them because they were crime infested and poorly managed? I have heard arguments both ways, but only know that in my city crime is down a third after the size of the African American community has been reduced by 25%.

As a veteran crusader for civil rights and racial equality it is hard to let go of ideas driving the fight, but it is also very disappointing that African Americans have failed to take care of their own and many of our city's problems were a direct result of embezzlement and nepotism by black officials. We also know that some well intended policies and initiatives made things worse rather than fixing problems.

I can't let this discussion end without noting just how horrible the American brand of slavery was. (And the North American brand was much less lethal than the Spanish and Caribbean version where roughly 80% of the imported slaves died within five years.) Consider for a bit the trauma of being kidnapped from one's home and shipped thousands of miles away to an alien culture and subjected to forced labor upon pain of death. This is theft of a person's life and humanity. The wickedness is staggering and it is no wonder that we find ourselves struggling to recover this many generations later.

You never used to hear about all this gender-fluid stuff even 25 years ago, and now it is everywhere. Even on some forms and license applications, you have an option to check "other" for gender.

I wonder if the powers that be are promoting it as an anti-overpopulation measure?

Sexually confused people are less likely to start a nuclear family and add more people to the population.

Strident feminism is useful for this too, get women to be angry at men and overly picky and they are less likely to settle in with a life partner, at least a male one.

I also wonder if all the crap they are putting in food these days is affecting people's chemistry somehow. Are they secretly putting estrogen in my ice cream?

Perhaps those of us here who are "of a certain age", i. e. born somewhere in the time before the USSR fell are the last true hetero male generation.

They're not sexually confused but they are less likely to start a nuclear family. However, as they replace the sexually repressed, I'm not sure if that's a net loss to the equation.

Strident feminism - the argument here is quality over quantity - but throwing in strident chauvenism as a counterweight, I would opine that there is a net gain for the nuclear family over the dysfunctional family.

And as to you historical (as opposed to hysterical...) point, the fact that we no longer, for the moment at any rate, have mega wars, I'm not sure your nostalgic retrospective is warranted. We might not have gotten to the moon in this decade but I'm getting more bang for my buck out of Netflix.

This is true. Some of what goes on in this country didn't back in the days when it was controlled by bearded men in broadcloth and leather boots, who went around chewing tobacco and drinking whiskey and carrying pistols in their pockets as they pleased.

According to the incels movement, there are plenty of "marginal men" who aren't getting any these days. They blame it on "empowered women" who should actually be at home in the kitchen and the bedroom attending to their needs.

Personally, I think we will see more sexual frustration because of the growing divide between the haves and the have nots, and the fact that more and more people means less resources (and money) to go around.

It's kind of hard to attract a mate when you live in a tenement flat with 5 flatmates, and your Walmart salary barely covers your share of the rent, plus budget bread and peanut butter and lunch meat to cover your meals. if you have no chance of moving up, then what?

I think we are likely to see more acts of violence inspired by socio-economic driven sexual frustration in the future, regardless of the so called sexual freedoms the more well-off in society get to enjoy.

Telling the sexually left-behind to go gay or become trannies isn't going to cut it.

Besides, with metoo and all the sensitivity and outrage, some men are probably afraid to offer a woman a compliment these days, let alone ask her out for a drink. Until this changes, the dynamic will remain volatile.

Look at Morgan Freeman. From what I can gather, apart from the dramatics and hysterics, all he did was offer compliments and suggest that one pregnant woman's husband was a lucky man. CNN had tried and convicted him before he even had a chance to respond to the accusations.

Again, it's not the nature of the evidence, it's the seriousness of the charge.
