Dating Websites You Have Used - Past Or Present...
There's another post similar to this, but not exactly. Would you please share your use of dating websites and the results?
It can be websites formally reserved for dating arrangements (ie AdultFriendFinder, PlentyOfFish, etc), or other websites (ie craigslist.org, etc) where you managed to find a date. I'm posting this because every other forum I visit regularly has a thriving thread devoted to dating except VEF. Thanks in advance. (rubbing hands in anticipation of the juicy details forthcoming) |

Mrs Smith would never let me use them.

I think you find that the majority of dating websites are scams. The procedure is that you join, which in some cases is free, then you are bombarded with 1), spam and 2), hard luck stories from the fictitious "women" who initially claim to be residing in the UK, but upon closer examination you discover that they they have 'returned to Ghana/Nigeria'.

I agree with you, especially adultfriendfinder (and its related websites). It's well known to have MANY fake profiles. Sadly, I found this out only after I got a paid membership. Plentyoffish is free, and seems to have tons of profiles with a good balance of men and women.
I hoped to read a few interesting dating stories, happy and sad. |

Match.com, Adultfriendfinder, yahoo singles - all crap.
At least if you are male. Pickings are SLIM to NONE and Slim walked out the door. Mind you, my office mate married a guy she met on Match, but she had hundreds emails every day. I got I think 5 emails - from women with 5 kids from 5 men, 3 of which were husbands and I looked good because I had a job. And talk about rode hard and put away wet. Sheesh, enough to make the family jewels climb up inside and never come back out. And only two replies to my emails, both of which turned out to be lying in their ads. "a little extra weight" is not 300lbs on a 5'4" person.

I put up a profile on Place 4 Friends just to see what kind of chicks thought I was worthy dating material. Totally an ego thing of course but I was pleasantly surprised with some of them.

As they say, first impressions are critical. I did something that seemed rational at the time: In late 2003, as I was finishing my final e-commerce classes at college and preparing to "coast" until graduation in June 2004, I explored dating websites. The most reputable was Matchmaker.com, which advertised on television in my area! In the late fall, I discovered a girl who went to my high school, had some college, and reminded me greatly of myself five years earlier when I began college in 1999. She seemed perfect. I screen-captured her profile, recorded her e-mail given in the profile, and told myself "January 2004 will be the perfect time for a relationship" once college got easier.
On New Year's Day 2004, I joined Rivercity.Matchmaker.com, the Cincinnati affiliate of the national Matchmaker.com website. On that day, her profile disappeared from the site; had her membership expired, or did I wait too long on an opportunity? But the real test that I had yet to understand was her e-mail: AOL claimed it was "not a known screenname" when I tried to e-mail her to contact her personally. In April 2004, I called AOL for the last time about this issue, frustrated that I couldn't contact her still. Lo and behold, as I was on the phone with the AOL technician, she was suddenly online, and the technician explained that hers was an Instant Message Only e-mail, a type of e-mail I had never heard about before. Was this a hack, or part of a conspiracy? I wanted to talk to her, and the technician put me through to her IM. She seemed nice at first, then suddenly acted rude during the conversation: "Get to the point. / Humor of the world, darling. / I am looking for a man who will TOTALLY SPOIL THE CRAP OUT OF ME!!!!!!!!!! / That's nice..." then she cut me off and didn't talk anymore. I won't go into what happened next, but it made me think that even in 2004, I still wasn't ready to deal with arrogant women from my own generation. Perhaps the younger, sweeter, more liberal-minded, less sexually-prudish models of the Millennial generation have possibilities? Or as Danger Danger put it: "What kind of a girl do you think I am?!" > |

I could also add that other people who I am Facebook friends with (women as well as men) have experienced similar problems. There are a lot of liars and game players on dating websites. I think I'm going to try for an Uptown Girl who is hot enough to be in porn, and I'm going to have the confidence to do it at a sports bar or a modeling agency, not a dating website.
