Greetings,
I am indebted to that estimable Guardian newspaper journalist and writer, Simon Hoggart, for this bizarre contender in the best ever newspaper headline competition.
"FOOT HEADS ARMS BODY" - Not quite what you think.An Observer front page headline of the mid-1980s.
Apparently its all about the late, great Labour Party politician Michael Foot (in the days when Labour was actually a Labour party, by the way), being offered the chairmanship of a pan-European strategic arms reduction council.

Sadly not a real headline, but I love this one from some satirist many years ago, as it encapsulates most of the tabloid obsessions.

Let's not forget the Daily Mail's January 1934 headline 'Hurrah For the Blackshirts' in praise of Mosely and his fascist rabble.

Private Eye produced the excellent 'Book Of Boobs' a collection of misprints et al from the press in 1966 with a second and third volumes a few years later - always manages to raise a smile

Back in the early 80's, DL William Gay of the Detroit Lions ran roughshod over Green Bay Packer QB Lynn Dickey. Gay's actions were severe enough to possibly warrant sanctions from the NFL Brass. Dickey was asked about what punishment Gay should receive and the headline to the story read: "GAY'S PENALTY SHOULD BE STIFF, DICKEY."

though not a lover of Scottish football..... ( i am English after all ) ... i do recall one truly funny headline in a Scottish paper the day after top side Celtic were beaten hollow by newly promoted (or maybe cup run hopefuls) Inverness Caledonian Thistle......

"SUPER CALLY GO BALLISTIC CELTIC WERE ATROCIOUS!"
