In the interests of keeping the controversy going...

The Journals of Robert Rogers, Probably the earliest book that I have read not in translation,It tells in Robert's own terse words of His operations against the French and their Indian allies in the vast woodland of the American Northeast. He speaks of ambushes and attacks,Scouting missions deep in enemy territory and makes light of being wounded"Lightly in the head". Of course the scalping is downplayed,As this volume was aimed at readers in the more civilized parts of America and Britain..

Beyond Wealth by Alexander Green. It's a series of essays about ways to live a full life if you're blessed enough to be financially secure. And most of the tips are good even if you still have to work.

Arrow Long Road Home

The Long Road Home by Adrian Vincent
New English Library
I am always surprised this book is not better known , as its only the
second one I know where the participant actually took part in the Defence of Calais
in 1940 - and his subsequent long walk back to Germany and imprisonment -
you also get a good view of how hard prison life was, and certainly not what its made up to be like in the Movies or the Great Escape .
The Combat Descriptions are really gripping especially .

I recently finished Howie Gordon AKA Richard Pacheco's biography. Great insight into the industry late 70s/80s. A few tales that had me guessing who he was referring to, such as Christine De Shaffer yelling at him on his first porn shoot because he couldn't get hard LOL.

Default George RR Martin 'Dying of the Light'

Because I was getting tired of being told that I 'must' read some George RR Martin by the missus and there's no way I'm reading Crown of Thorns (whatever), so I gave this a go. Not too bad, fairly interesting as an example of 1970s sci-fi.

The Combat Descriptions are really gripping especially .
The MP Airey Neave was a junior officer in a territorial regiment and participated in the defence of Calais in 1940. Neave was one of those who forecast from a very early stage that the rise of the Nazis in Germany would lead to a general European war. He was captured when the town fell, having been shot and wounded during the battle for the town. He went on later to escape from Colditz and return to the UK, rejoining the war. He was the first one out of not very many who managed to escape from there.

Airey Neave wrote a detailed and informative account of the events around the fighting in Calais between 23 and 26 May 1940 called The Flames of Calais. Some of it he was able to describe at first hand and the rest he gleaned partly from conversations with other Calais POWs in various camps and then from formal research and interviews after the war, in an era when research meant a lot more than a google web search.

Neave's book is a good description of a chaotic soldiers battle and includes a wealth of incidental details; for example, Neave was haunted by the memory of a family of Austrian Jews who turned up at his roadblock shortly before the German Army turned up, and who he could not allow to enter the British perimeter. Even in May 1940, Neave had studied the Nazis carefully and visited Nazi Germany several times, and he knew in general terms what was in store for these unlucky people. He pitied them, but could not let them in; and in any case they could not have escaped from Calais as there were no more passenger ferries. There was a battle about to commence, and indeed Neave was shooting in earnest less than an hour later. But he did not forget about those Austrian Jews and always felt guilty about turning them away, even though he had no choice.

This book.
